Thanks. Texarkana was a big gamble for me. It's famous for high scores (last year I was +141 and was 30 pins out of the cash) and I hadn't been practicing. I picked up a ball Tuesday and had two balls drilled Friday morning before I left. A Thing Returns and an American Eagle spare ball.
I brought all my old 15 lb balls with old thumb pitches, since I've stopped using 14's. B Pattern is my worse pattern, because it's such a tight line to the pocket and tons of out of bounds. I usually average 180's on that.
The Thing Returns was amazing. Had the pin 4-1/2" from my PAP, with the CG about 6" from my PAP in the negative/thumb quadrant. B Pattern has the break point so far down the lane, it plays like there is a ton of carry down. The Thing Returns made the corner every time... and with plenty of juice. Very forgiving ball and carried a lot of light hits. That made the difference between a 210 and a 240 game.
Sunday the lanes broke down very fast and very different than Saturday. Had a tough time clearing the heads. The lanes are half synthetic (not Guardian) and half wood. Once the ball hit the wood, it checked up. Everyone played the lanes way left of the day before. Didn't make the right adjustments.
It was still fun and it's always nice to catch a check.
