It says it's just got some color defects UNDER the surface (whatever that means)???

That color is way different from the actual Barrage. Might have been a test run. Color definitely affects performance. How, it depends on the color and the ball. No telling how this ball might react: might be great, might be terrible. Just no way of knowing.
