Title: Can this be right?
Post by: Lower_Level on January 27, 2005, 11:36:39 PM
Was browsing through the catalogues in the proshop this week, looking for a ball I can use late in the set when the heads fade & carrydown becomes a right royal pain!

So I'm looking for something that will go long...   very long.  And I check out the Vendetta pearl.  Seemed like what I needed.  Then just for fun I check out the "high performance" page & see that the Element AU79 goes longer than the Vendetta?  A much more violent looking backend, but still has more length!!

Am I missing something here?  I wouldn't think the AU79 would be a length ball at all!

Can someone shed some light?  And can someone recommend the ball that will best suit the above condition?

Maybe someday that Big 'B' will learn how to knock down that little 10 pin!

I would thing the new Energy would be good for this reaction...probably with some polish.  The Thing Returns is a great skid / flip ball, but I would be a little worried that it would go long in the carrydown.

as usual there's always some variables in comparing balls,..but drilled for length the Au79 will in fact go long and pop around the corner. The pearl cover with the flip-top weight block is great for this reaction. I have one drilled 6 x 4 with the pin up over the middle finger that is perfect for me to play real deep and still get it back...jim

The AU79 and the Thing Returns will be better than the Vendetta Pearl in any carrydown situation as their coverstock is stronger. The AU79 being a solid/pearl combo will not likely go longer than the Vendetta Pearl, a fully pearlized, non-Soaker coverstock, with a weaker core. The AU79 is likely to be stronger than the Energy (altho' I have not seen or tried an Energy yet) based solely on the Soaker ATC coverstock being less grabby and less strong than the original Soaker; also the AU79 is a solid/pearl combo, while, as far as I know, the Energy is all pearl. Either on has the potential to solve your problem. A lot depends on what you are using now and how it is drilled.
