Crisis pearl
« on: March 08, 2005, 12:22:42 PM »
I have 2 thing returns one pin over ring and other one pin next to fingers im a very high tracker i bowl on a 41 foot pattern that im having trouble with. i play feet on 32 eyes on 17 out to 7 and buy the second or third game i just cant seem to stay on my side. Would a crisis pearl be a good idea for me to buy/ If so how sould i have it drilled?

Fascinating!
While I think the Crisis Pearl would make an excellent go-to ball for your situation, your being a high tracker makes a good but properly functional drilling and interesting question.

FWIW:
Thinking out loud - the milder (NOT mild!) cover and the higher RG makes me hesitant to place the pin above the ring finger, but its excellent control abilities for a resin pearl makes such a drilling very feasible. Yeah, My "wild" hunch is that pin above the ring finger, at least a 3" pin-CG distance ball, CG placed either directly below the pin or kicked out maybe 1" closer towards your axis point should give a  decent workable reaction.

Remember that while the Crisis Pearl is weaker than the Thing Returns, it is not a weak ball!!

FYI the Crisis Pearl's cover is easily modifiable. Change it first if you're not happy with any drilling that you finally choose, before re-drilling.

I don't know what you mean by this, "staying a way from the PAP".

Well, you mentioned only the Crisis Pearl; so, I naturally thought you wanted that ball. It is the next logical step down from the TR,in the DynoThane hierarchy . If you have a high track, then a pin on line between ring finger and PAP or above it is almost essential. One could put the Crisis Pearl's pin below and directly betwen the bridge, withthe CG kicked out slightly; that would do almost exactly what you need, especially with the Crisis's higher RG, BUT depending on how high your track actually is that might make this ball's track go over your middle finger.

You could also place the pin to the right of the ring finger, but a little  higher. That will also permit length. CG could be placed just enough to the right of grip center so as not to need a weight hole.

A Roto-Grip Sonic Boom or an Ultra Sonic would also be a good choice; they are slightly milder than a Crisis and have a still higher RG. The Ultra Sonic hooks slightly ealrier and more than the Sonic Boom. Both are a half step below the Crisis, maybe even closer than that.
