I've been fighting with my AU79 for a few months now, and for the life of me I can't seem to get this ball to get any revs. I don't have this problem with the Anomaly, or any of my other balls for that matter, but I'd be lucky to count 5 turns of the ball before it clears the oil & starts rolling on the dry backend.
The drilling on the ball is pin over bridge, CG roughly in the center of the span, and inline with the pin (ball is a 3" pin length). There's no balance hole. Kinda looks like this:
P
0 0
cg
0
Is it maybe the drilling that is killing the roll & reaction of this ball? or does it maybe require a different release; like maybe more of a side roll as opposed to a forward roll? Any help would be appreciated! If I don't soon figure this thing out, it'll be heading to the for sale pile!

for me this is a drilling I would use for length and medium backend reaction,..
The Au79 with a pearl shell, and large top-hat weight block will by nature go longer,...here's a couple things you might want to look at,...top weight after drilling,..top weight will make the ball go longer through the fronts, and delay reaction, drilling the fingers/thumb deeper will lower the top weight if necessary,...if that's ok, surface would be my next look,...although a pearl shell, it can still be adjusted,..what I do is during practice use a green scotch brite pad, and as I practice rub it down a little bit at a time until I see the earlier reaction I want,...or if I want to change the surface completely a trip to the spinner,..I prefer the 1000 or 2000 Abralon pads to remove all the polish and shine,..and again adjust like above in a practice session...lastly (for me) a 7/8" hole drilled in my pap will get the ball to roll earlier,..I start with 1" deep increments,..and go 1/2" deeper as required,..PM me if ya have any more questions,..jim

I agree with jimensminger about changing the surface, made a great difference for me. Out of box on the AU79 I would get jerkiness and over/under. I then used a green scotch brite pad and it made all the difference in the world. Try to adjust the surface before changing the drilling.

yep,...yep,....that guy is really smart,...surface is the key. Changing the surface is almost like getting a new ball,...been there, done that, got my sign.

I may just have to try that. Right now this thing is HIGH gloss.
But will the duller surface do anything to help out with the challenged rev-rate of this ball? With the slow rotation, it seems to never finish the turn. I thought that it may have been a problem with my thumb hanging in the ball, but after alot of butchery to the thumbhole monday night, that is no longer a problem.

more friction more grab,...more grab more roll,...more roll more flare, more flare more hook.
