Drilled the Energy today... WOW!
« on: February 23, 2005, 02:57:02 PM »
I just have to say, my Energy is a turd.

I know that people will get on here and probably BLAST me and say I'm a moron. But let me say that my THING LIVES is one the best balls I've thrown in a long while... Many 700's with this ball and also an honor score as well to it's credit! Best Medium/Heavy Oil ball in the game! The THING LIVES is the ball that got me turned on to DYNO THANE. And I thought if all the SOAKER's rolled as great as this one, that I would have a new favorite ball company.

I hope and pray that the ENERGY I got is a BLEM, or a DEFECT... because this ball doesn't cover much ground in the backend at all.

My Energy is drilled with the PIN above ring and CG slightly out from the grip... basically a 4 3/4" x 4".

I tried it on 2 different shots... one was a broken down shot and the other was a fresh shot and the Energy didn't match up with neither one. No recovery at all.

Usually surface changes help... but not with this ball.

It comes out of the box kind of dullish actually. So I polished it up before I even threw it because I figured it would be too early for me (and I knew if I didn't like it, that I could just scuff it back up).

With a polished coverstock, the ball just rolled and rolled with no recovery so I thought maybe the ball was not creating enough friction and was going to long... so then I scuffed it down a little (close to box finish) and it still was rather weak.

My Thing Lives is drilled PIN above ring (4 3/4" x 4")... and my Storm Recharge is drilled PIN above ring (4 3/4" x 5 1/4").

The Thing Lives is sanded to 600 and the Recharge is glossed up pretty good.

My RECHARGE had a strong backend on both shots as did my Thing Lives. The Thing Lives being earlier with still a big backend... and the Recharge being longer and cleaner with a strong backend.

I let 2 friend's throw this ball tonight after I seen the weak reaction I was getting... and both of them agreed that something was not right with this ENERGY.

I wanted to make a post about this in this forum to see if any of the Dyno Thane Guru's, or people "in the know", had an answer.

I'm truley disapointed in this ball.

I hope and pray that the ENERGY I got is a BLEM, or a DEFECT.

Did you scale the to check the cg before drilling? Seems that plenty of balls from that factory have cgs miss marked.
I drilled an Energy for the first time yesterday. The ball was left in box condition. It did want to burn to early on the house condition but had a great reaction for the guy on the ABC pattern.
My only thought is maybe the polish you used isn't working well with this coverstock. Maybe it is dud.

Ive had the same problem as you.  I had mine drilled Monday night, threw it on a burnt up shot...and had 0 recovery. Tried to slow it down..still nothing.  I had 4 other people throw it, all with ample amounts of revs, and still nothing.  Im going to contact dynothane today, ill tell ya what happens.

Same problem here too. I have tried it polished and scuffed, bowled 25 games on 3 totally different conditions bit just reacts like a spare ball. My first Dynothane ball is a big disappointment, Lets hope its a defect.

I just had conversation with dynothane about finding out defects i was told to put small amount of lane oil on the ball if it sits on ball you have a defect if it some soaks in ball is good. I have one coming in and was concerned of how to tell if ball is bad run or good run and was told this is how they have been testing the runs.

Has anyone called Dyno-thane and spoke to someone there?? I would for sure think something is wrong if 3 different people have drilled this ball up and are that unhappy with it.. Somethings not right here..

If they only made a ball that would carry that da_n 7 pin (and I am right handed!!)

Jim they realize there is a problem and were very helpful i was impressed this go round about willingness to figure out if there is a problem. I am sure everyone will get balls replaced and they will keep my business if i get a bad ball and replace. I am crossing fingers that i get a good run ball next week

When I posted the problem with my Anomaly everyone thought I was an idiot, now there all of a sudden "Might be a defect" from a company that reassured me they have no defects?

Windoor they know there is a problem give them a chance to fix it, Billy Yinger will be back monday he is aware of what is going on and they are going to replace the defects. Call him monday i think you will get another energy or a different ball i have heard of them doing this for other people.

I called this afternoon and they told me the same thing, to take a drop of lane oil and put it on the ball, if it absorbs it all in like 4 mins then the ball is ok. I have to wait till monday for the tech to get back in before i can get a new one coming.  Everyone makes mistakes...it just depends on how some companies handle them.  It seems like dynothane is doing the right thing by replacing the "defect" balls released.

When you tried this test, did it work or what were the results?

I talked to Dyno Thane and I think they are gonna send me another one.

Guys I have done the test on a number of balls with a few that didn't pass. But it doesn't mean that it is a dud...I have shot an 800 with a ball that was considered a recall and had plenty of recovery...don't let the out of box cover fool you...

Yeah, saw on here some guy had a 898 recently and I sort of knew his pain.

I hate when those balls have a slow breakin sort of like you had Jim it really frosts me.
