carry down
« on: October 04, 2005, 02:05:33 AM »
Curious as to what you guys think i need for carry down.  I know this has been addressed numerous times but i tried using the sites search feature with no luck at all.  Not sure why either.  I'm talking pretty heavy carry down for a medium-heavy condition.  I have a ball that works on this condtion (hammer sharp-blade) but it's a LOT more aggressive than what I'm wanting on this.  Even with carry down it still hooks 10-15 boards.  Needless to say that's my heavy oil ball.  Anyways, I have a vendetta black solid, thing returns, barrage, and crisis pearl.  Needless to say all of these gets laughed at by the head pin as it slides on by.  I've tried the element Au79 with no luck unfortunately.  Sold it after a month.  Even tried sanding it to 600 grit for carry down like someone on here recommended.  So now i'm looking for something else.  I was thinking of going with the vendetta sniper since its particle and would bite nearly as hard as my hammer ball.  I havent tried the energy line yet and also feel they'd be more hook than what I'm wanting as well.  Anyways, I'll leave the choice up to you as to what you guys think.

If a Sharp Blade is too much ball then I would think that a Sniper with the proper drilling / suface prep could be the answer.

When I first saw your thread title I was thinking of a High Energy, but that ball is really strong for me so I would be affriad that it would be too close to the Sharp Blade for you.

If you consider other manufacturers I'd suggest a light load solid particle ball, with a sheen surface. From Brunswick, the Eliminator makes a great control ball for worn-out conditions because of the carbide spike particles the ball has and the semi-glossy OOB Trizact finish which gives it good length, even when the heads start to wear down.

Thanks for the replies.  I thought about either the high or pure energy but figured those would be WAY too strong for what I hit on a regular basis.  I hit the carry down on travel league but that's only through games 3-5.  Game 6 is usually bowling on lanes that are toasted.

Havent thought about anything other companies.  I have a couple friends with the Eliminator and that thing hooks a TON.  Only time either of them could use it was on heavy conditions.  Of course I havent thrown it so I dont know.  I'll definately take it into consideration.  Thanks for the help guys

I agree I think you are a prime candidate for a Vendettaq Sniper.  Itr has helped me with 99% of my carry down issues.

Thanks for the help everyone.  Now, what kind of drilling would you suggest.  Just for an overall carry down type situation.  I throw about 16-17 mph, medium to high revs, about 45 degrees tilt.  Would give you PAP, etc but have no clue what so ever.

I have a HE, drilled 4-1/2 x 4-1/2, 4" pin pin down. This ball is awsome, on a fresh THS it out hooks the Morich TS&A, it is longer and finishes stronger. I've used it on carrydown situations to find it is still continious to the pocket. The core helps it get down the lane and the soaker pearl mix gives you plenty of traction on the slop you might run into. Great ball !!!!
