How does this arsenal look?
« on: November 29, 2004, 11:48:13 AM »
1>Anomaly
2>Vendetta Black Solid
3>Thing Returns

I don't have any problems with my anomaly like others say. I have it wet sanded to 800 and no polish. It is a hook monster. You gotta have medium-heavy or heavy oil to throw it. I also have the thing returns and it does great on medium-light oil. If the oil gets too light or the lane starts to dry, then it can get too aggressive. I currently don't have the vendetta black but would like to get one as my middle ball. I think it would fit nicely. What do you guys think?

Well, it seems as if you have a wide variety of conditions covered with that setup. If you can alter your release, speed, revs, you may just have all of the bases covered. From what I can see, and my own experience, the Anomaly will cover everything from standard mediums to fairly heavy oil, depending upon surface prep. The Vendetta Black Solid, though I haven't thrown it, seems to be similar to a V2 Sanded, just a great all around ball. The Thing Returns, for me, went plenty long and filled the bill nicely on lighter mediums. With that being said, you should be pretty well set up. The only problems you may encounter will be the two extremes, flood and bone dry. The TR will probably be too much for scorched conditions while the Anomaly may not be strong enough on a flood. That depends, however, on your style and your ability to adjust. If you're dead set on keeping 3 balls maximum, you're probably pretty set. If you don't mind expanding, you may want to add a Barrage for very dry and a Thing Lives (with some surface) for floods. Just my .02. Good luck and good bowling to you.

Thanks Gene! Although I would love to try a thing lives, it's not in my christmas budget. I beleive my anomaly will handle the heaviest oil that my house puts down. We hardly ever see true flood. I can adjust ball speed for this. I do like the idea of adding a crisis or barrage to the arsenal for when my returns gets a little strong. First I have to find a vendetta black. Thanks for your input. If anybody else has anything to comment on..speak up. Thanks, Tim

I have read that topic but nobody threw in the anomaly or thing returns. I already have the anomaly and returns but want to see if you guys think a vendetta black would fit in between nicely. I like both of my D/T's and want to add another one for medium conditions and thought about the black. I have been throwing mixed arsenals until I tried D/T and loved the way they roll, hit, and carry. Now I don't want anything but D/T

The Vendetta Black is a mainstay in the line.  Excellent ball... great core and a medium-aggressive reactive cover. I prefer solids because I like to polish when needed.

I think the Thing Returns is more ball than the Vendetta Black.  The Soaker is a strong reactive.  I'd think the the VB would fit below the Thing Returns.  The original Thing might be a better in-between... because it will roll up earlier than the Thing Returns, but not as much as your Anomaly.

If you don't have a Vendetta yet.  Get one.  One of the best bang-for-the-bucks on the market.  You might want to try the Pearl to get a more different reaction than your premium DT's.

Best of luck!

Really? I thought the vendetta black was stronger than the returns. That soaker coverstock is strong after it has some games on it, but I have it semi polished and it goes long with a big snap. I would think the vendetta black would be stronger and roll a little earlier. Anybody else think that the VB should go below the thing returns??

We generally rank balls according to how much oil they can handle.  On that scale, I say the VB belongs above the TR.

On its intended lane condition, I agree with Tony that the TR probably covers more boards than the VB, especially in the last 15 feet of the lane, but that's a different matter.

So then would I be better off sanding the returns to say 1000-1200 grit no polish and then take the VB and polish it up. Then it would be:

Anomaly
TR
VB polished

Would that work better?

I have two VB's and they are both polished.  But you guys are right, it will roll up a little earlier than the pearlized Thing Returns.

That would be a better lineup in my opinion.  But I still think the VB and TR will have pretty close reactions.  Consider the Vendetta Pearl, which will be a bigger step down from the TR.

I only recommend this because it's a 3-ball arsenal.  You'll want something for lighter oil or broken down lanes... unless you have something else for that.

Regardless, the VB is very tweakable.  Takes polish well.  Also, you could try a more lengthy layout (i.e. pin over ring finger) to get a different reaction.  Layout, obviously, makes the biggest difference.

The VB and the TR are both too strong to be your dry lane ball.

If you really, really, really must limit yourself to three balls, I'd get the VB, and trade the TR+cash for a new Crisis Pearl.

Yeah, that's the ticket!

I am gonna add a barrage or crisis to the arsenal after christmas but for now if my thing returns is to strong I use a storm hot rod and also have a white dot plastic. It will be a 4 ball arsenal(not counting my white dot spare ball) after christmas. For now, I can only have a 3 ball.
