Not Happy With- The Thing Returns, need help!
« on: February 29, 2004, 12:02:30 PM »
I just bought a Dyno-Thane, The thing returns and need some serious help. The ball is 16 lbs. 3.12 oz top weight, 2-2.5 pin, finger tip and is drilled with dyno-thanes layout #2 Iam a 200 average medium speed, medium revs Bowler The problem is that this ball does not hook! and does not add up the the hype on this ball. The cover is box stock and hooks way less that my Track Phenom unleashed (thought it would) but it hooks a lot less than my Track dry heat and a Storm Hot Wire (All polished)on the same lanes! If you read what Dyno-thane says about this ball It should be my #2 hooking ball, IMO. The ball does have excellent hit and explodes the pins but it is like straight bowling. I play on house shots and night leagues. Any help would be great!

Sorry guys but I'm not buying this "breaking-in" period business with the soaker balls ...... my Anomaly hooked the whole lane from the first night.  Which is what it was supposed to do.  And my Thing Returns cleared the heads like a knife through butter from the first night.  Which is what it was supposed to do!

How's this for a crazy idea, but I think it has merit:  Balls that have a dull surface will tend to get shinier as you use them, they need to be cleaned and scuffed to retain their "box" condition.  Polished balls will tend to get duller (on the track) from normal use.  I think the reason that some of you are getting better results with the Thing Returns after a few games is the track is getting a little surface on it, so it's not overreacting on the over/under oil patters that a lot of us bowl on in league.

Maybe the King of Bowling can weigh in on my theory, I'm pretty much ignorant when it comes to equipment but maybe I made a lucky guess on this one?

I should probably start a new thread, but since this one is here I'll just add on.

I had my T/R polished last night. This is one pretty ball. Threw it on a fresh med-vol/med-long/length with mild back ends. I Threw the ball the first two games just to see what I could do with it. I found that I could get to the pocket very easily and I had strikes or nine counts in all frames these two games; this ball now gets through the heads sooo beautifully! The weak backends didn't lend themselves to consistent carry for me, as I left seven ten pins in those two games,(covered 5 of them)still, I was looking at 425 going into the last game. I could see that this ball is going to truly shine when I get it on shorter patterns or a slightly lighter volume in the heads.

I switched to my Blueberry for the last game to finish up with a respectable (with my 202 ave) 671. This ball is going to be a good fit right behind my Blueberry which is at 1200 wet sand with Elixir. Can't wait to get this ball on the right shot to really see it perform.
