First time success with Anomaly
« on: March 27, 2004, 04:34:45 AM »
All I can say is WOW! What an amazing ball! I shot my highest set (690) with it on my Saturday night league. I went 226, 228, 236 with only a few ringing tens.
Really easy to read, clean through the heads, with a strong move in the mids and backend.

It's layout:

.0.0.P
.....
...*
..0

Thanks,
Josh

When in doubt, go buy Dyno-Thane.

This ball, with its MONSTER backend and overall smooth, yet huge hook, has to be THE stroker's delight!

You're totally correct with that Charlest! I like that it does have that huge hook, but it's smooth without any jerkiness. It's nice to have a ball you can trust will recover, even if you get a little sloppy with the hand .

I would like to see how it handles heavy oil, if only I could find some.... I don't think the box finish will do much on heavy. But, I don't know if I wanna touch the coverstock quite yet. Since I got my span remeasured and my pitches checked and after drilling, I did notice that I got an increase in revs and side roll, but did see a decrease in speed (14.8-15 mph). I have know idea why?

I would maybe suggest drilling it the way I did; It does not have a weight hole. I get great lengthen in the heads, makes it's strong move in the mids and fantastic backend. It's a very strong ball! I did however knock it down to 800 from the 1000 grit box condition. With it at 800, I would drop at 25 out to 15 and play the flood in the middle (THS). Normally that area would be the out of bounds for me, but not with the Anomaly.

Since not having any experience with this ball, I thought I'd ask about it here.  I need to drill one of these for a customer in a week and was wondering if anyone else has had alot of sucsess with the Anomaly.  His favorite layout is either pin above or below the ring finger and cg just right enough to not need a hole. The ball is 16.1# 2-1/4" pin and 3.2oz top.  He wants it to just wheel across the lane. I hope you Dynothane fans can add some input to me on this ball.  Thanks for reading this post.

Hmmm, that depends on your definition of "wheeling it" and his speed/rev rate.  If you mean a big arcy curve, I'd try to put the pin 4" to 4-1/2" from his PAP and maybe stack the CG.  Obviously, the further away his pin is, the longer the ball will go, generally speaking.

The Anomaly is a very heavy rolling ball, not skid flippy at all.  I'd drill the ball strong and use light polish for length.  If he really likes the pin under his ring finger (a personal favorite), I'd move his CG as far away as possiblle to get the ball started up a little sooner.  The symmetrical core is as versatile as any other, but I'm not a fan of exotic layouts.  The Anomaly and Thing/Thing Returns respond well with standard layouts, in my experience.

Can't go wring with the Anomaly.  Really nice ball for the sauce.

Let us know how it works!

I agree with Tony, you can't go wrong with the Anomaly!

bowldoc4u,

This ball can get spooky length, for a solid, and always has strong turn. It even did that with a pin position I normally hate. If he likes early roll without early reaction, I'd be inclined to gamble on a 4 - 4.5" pin, pin under the bridge, with CG around 4" (stacked [12:00} or slightly CG-kicked-out [11:30]).

In the "for what its worth" department, I thought of all you here last night when I was bowling in my weekly match play league.  We are often harping about how the ball is determined by the player...well, on what I consider medium oil on broken down lanes, I was playing my Barrage with a slight swing.  ON the same lanes, slightly to my right -- in slightly drier/more broken down area -- one of my teammates was using his Anomaly.  We were throwing about the same amount of hook, net.  He thought the lanes were slick and that he was hooking the ball off the planet.  I thought the lanes were drying and was trying to play straight.  He shot 266, I shot 255.  So....is the Anomaly actually a dry lane ball?  Is the Barrage for slick lanes?  Which hooks more?  The world...may never know...

you have a point there! I was throwing my too hot (5 o'clock drill) right next to a guy with his deuce drilled to the gills, I thought the shot was great for the too hot.  He was whining that his wouldn't move.  The difference was that he was spinning the ball IMO, I had rotation that actually got the ball to move.  So hook is in the eye of the beholder.  The general hook ratings are based for the norm. Anomaly will hook more than the barrage.. no doubt, but the use of each may be dictated by the bowler.  I would like to try the anomaly but just don't have the extra $ right now, I can't wait till i can!
