Alright everyone.. Just trying gto collect a bit of info on how everyone is using their energy's.
(1)
Do you prefer the Energy out of box as either polished or the sheen finish that was first on the Energy's when they came out?
(2) Same for the High Energy
I am torn between them both. While I prefer my Energy with the original sheen finish...I find myself liking the high gloss on the last couple..
Now,
the H Energy is a monster. I have kept the first H Energy out of box and only clean it with clean n dull. I have ventured in to applying degree 2000 grit polish over the storm step compound finish and have created a backend monster..
After more testing I will see where they lead me. I honestly think that I will keep the Energy sheen and the High Energy polished.... Seems like a bit of reversal for what they were designed for.........WE DO WHAT WE MUST!!
Everyone's thoughts are appreciated!!

I missed testing the Energy due to an injury. I just drilled my High Energy test ball last night and I agree it is a monster. I'm taking my Thing Lives with me next time to compare it against. The ball is a whole lot stronger than I thought it was going to be. I will probably keep the surface "as is" for slicker conditions...but if I where to use it on my THS I would polish the ball.

We test balls for the middle of the range they were designed for. We use medium drillings, medium surface (based on the performace we are looking for). Meaning if it is a ball designed for a medium condition we will use a medium grit surface on it like 800 or 1000 to test it with a medium drilling so the players have some latitude within the range we are building it for. We do not drill them weaker for hooking lanes and polish them or drill them stronger for heavier oil and sand them. So we like when they are left in box condition and used on what they were meant to be used on. That's why we build arsenals not just product.

Thanks for the info Phil! I'm not saying anything negative about the High Energy's box condition. I can totally see where it fits in your line up...but in it's box condition it's not a great fit with my THS. However, I had the same thing happen with the Thing Lives until I used it on its intended condition and it was GREAT! The Maxx worked very well for me out of the box, but that was back during the fall league condition. Since then the house has backed off on their oil volume for the summer.
Been a pleasure testing your latest creation Phil...keep up the good work!
Oh, can ya bring back the Xxtra Swirl? I **LOVE** that ball!!!!

right now i've got both my energy and high energy in box finish, i love the energy...fantastic ball, but my high energy, drilled very similarly really doesn't do a whole lot. my energy hooks by far more than it, on wet, dry, house shot, everything. any ideas?

And exactly who helped you out with the purchase and drilling with that new ball?...lol!!

that energy is the best thing that ever happened to me! lol. shot 770 with it last night on my spring league...what a ball.
kind of thought i was going to get another great ball with the high energy but so far i admit i'm a little dissapointed, i keep reading all this stuff about how it's a monster and all this...i don't see it, for me, the energy out-hooks it by...5-10 boards depending on the condition. don't know what to do.
-
I thought you just got married?
And you've still got the Energy(pun intended) to bowl?

haha nice!

they're both drilled pin above bridge, cg out. on the energy it's out about 1/2", the HE it's out about 3/4"...very similar. i figured the cover of the high would give it a little different look...doesn't do anything. most it's moved so far is like..7 boards, when i can swing my energy and make it come back 15 or so.

i'll be trying to polish it tonight. that's the only thing that i could think of as well, because i've got a lot of axis tilt, so i'm hoping a touch of polish will get it a bit further down the lane and make it save most of it's energy (no pun intended).
thanks everyone, i'll let you know how it goes.

Thus far, I've left my High Energy in box condition. It has been gold on PBA pattern A and regional/senior pattern #1. It has also done a nice job of smoothing out mild over/under on the house shots. The ball was purchased and drilled specifically for the ABC nationals pattern (this weekend). I suspect it will need some polish to carry the corners from an inside line, but time will tell.

just an update-checked the high energy, turned out it had too much finger weight, so we put a hole almost directly right of my ring finger, that didn't take care of it, so i then tried to polish it, which also...did nothing. ball does not move more than 5 boards. i have it drilled just like my energy that is a fantastic ball. last night i was moving the energy probably 20 boards, could swing it pretty much as much as i wanted, i tried every part of the lane with the HE...doen't move. very dissapointed so far...any suggestions?

Quick follow-up to my above post.
The High Energy I specifically purchased and drilled for the ABC nationals tournament was wonderful in Baton Rouge. I ended up using it 7 out of the 9 games. Bracket money paid for the ball twice over and I'll have more money coming back for doubles and potentially all-events.

Yes, thanks for bumping us down another notch in doubles, Jim

Seriously, you had some nice sets in there and those are some of the most consistent numbers I've seen (overall) this year. Nice bowling.
Did the High Energy work out for you as well?

Thanks guys..I used the High Energy on the fresh shot in team,..1000 grey pad kinda semi dull. Drilled 6 x 4 with the pin under the middle finger, cg in the thumb quad, and a hole 3" under the pap..this drilling took away the big jump off the backends playing about 25 to 15. I used the Energy for doubles and singles drilled the same way, except the hole was in the pap,(less flare),..and it was 2000 glossed,...played about the same place in doubles/singles. Very smooth off the track and the hit was super,...the carry in singles was non-exsistant,...hit the pocket the same as in doubles, but that pair gave up nothing..both balls were drilled just for what I expected to see at Nationls,...something that would stay on line, and not get jumpy,..seemed to work..

So what exactly is box finish on the High Energy? I need to clean mine up some (nicks, track, etc.)...thanks!
