High energy strength
« on: November 29, 2005, 02:43:41 AM »
I picked one of these up. Drilled basically 4x5. I can see the core churning but the ball really doesn't want to turn the corner. Right now it is covering a lot less boards than my Havoc. (Havoc's pin is leverage mb on val)I thought the HE was supposed to have a strong cover??? It seems pretty mellow to me.

Good engine, poor tires???

Louie,
How long have you had the ball? This ball comes with a version of the Soaker coverstock which is a very good coverstock IMO. Throw in some particles and this baby should grab. My Thing Returns when I got it was mellower than I had hoped. Get about 10 games or so on it and it's almost like the coverstock gets stronger. If you don't have many games with it, I'd say give it a chance for a few more and if it's still not working, maybe play with the coverstock a bit. If it's a bit heavier oil, it looks like the website recommends taking it down to 400 grit or so.

Everything I've heard about Soaker says that it needs a breakin period.  After a dozen games, it really starts to come into its own and the reaction lasts a LONG time.

I only have 10 or so games on it. I may at some point sand it down and put more games on it. It's hard to keep rolling a ball when other pellets are working much better.

Don't put the extra games on it in league then... I have never thrown a soaker in league without the breakin period... costs me too many side pots, brackets, match play events. I have to trust the reaction to really get aggressive. Just my 2 cents.

It sounds like you are experiencing the same thing I did with my HE. It looks like its reving up, but never makes much of a move in the back. I have thrown most all of the D/T balls and the HE is the only one I have ever been disapointed in. I could'nt ever get a reaction I liked out of it. I tried all different kinds of surface changes ranging from 400 dull all the way to 2000 with polish and never was satisfied. I finally let it go cheap. I'm not saying its a bad ball, but it did'nt match up to me at all. Every other D/T ball I love.
