I'm not sure it'll mean much.  Phil seems to be very protective of Soaker and his designs, I don't see that changing.  As for seeing a Soaker One or a GB Vendetta, even when it was C300/Track/DT, the lines were separate.  I don't think that'll change.

This is what I heard;
Ebonite bought Columbia and Track. ... Dynothane was it's own company and may stay that way. Columbia was just making their balls for them. --------------------

That may be true - the original press release did not mention anything about Columbia acquiring Dynothane, only a "strategic partnership": http://www.columbia300.com/interact/news.cfm?id=1787

However, you may be able to make some inferences based on a few statements:

"Dynothane President, Phil Cardinale, will continue his role as Dynothane
President and has accepted the position of Vice President, Business Development for Columbia Industries."

So, was Phil getting 2 paychecks? Is he still the President of Dynothane, and is he still employed by Columbia/Ebonite?

However, and here is the kicker - The Ebonite press release clearly mentions that Dyno-thane was part of the acquisition!

quote:

Ebonite International, Inc. has entered into an agreement for an asset purchase of Columbia Industries, including the Columbia, Track and Dyno-Thane® brands of bowling equipment, announced William T. Scheid, president of Ebonite. Terms were not disclosed.

“Our goal is to build a portfolio of the best brands in the bowling business to provide distributors, pro shops and ultimately consumers with the products that fit their needs,” said Scheid. “These brands, particularly Columbia and Track, have tremendous equity over a long period of time. We are very pleased to bring them into the Ebonite International family.”

Effective immediately, all sales of Columbia, Track and Dyno-Thane bowling balls, bags and accessories will be the responsibility of Ebonite International. Manufacturing of bowling balls for these brands, currently being done at the company’s manufacturing facility in San Antonio, Texas, will be moved to Ebonite International’s Hopkinsville, Kent. facility at some point in the near future.

So, what do we make of all of this as far as Dyno-thane is concerned? Sure does sound like Ebonite owns them!

It also sounds like Ebonite sees value in Columbia and Track brands - no mention of Dyno-thane.

And, since all manufacturing will be moved to Ebonite's factory, even if Phil still owns Dyno-thane, he won't have any place to manufacture!

From what I hear, the Columbia factory is pretty large - would be nice to see something like Phil (and Dyno-thane) and Lane #1 get together and buy the facility.  I doubt that is feasible, but it's nice to dream.

Sounds like Dynothane is going Buh Bye.  If Phil had kept the brand I would expect them to survive.  With Ebonite in charge I'm not so sure.

its all specualation at this point, I doubt even Ebo knows what they're going to do yet. And may not for a few weeks to come. They'll probably compare balls, through theirs in the Ky river, and change their name to Dyno-nite or Ebo-thane then put a real cover on the One Series calling it IWICUS ("I wish I could use Soaker")

just a feeble attempt at some humor... still reeling from the news man, feel like I'm floating in space without a teather cord. Maybe next week or so we'll get some definitive answers. I don't like being in limbo.

On the bright side, existing DT equipment prices should jump nicely (for shops, anyway).  They're now "vintage".

I bought a slew of 2 ball D/T totes, three colors and several 2 ball rollers real cheap from my vendor.
