Vendetta Sniper
« on: January 25, 2006, 03:09:07 AM »
There aren't a whole lot of reviews out there for this piece.  Those that have thrown it, what do you think?  I'm starting to heavily lean towards purchasing this ball, but I'm still not positive.  I might decide to go with a higher end DT ball for the Soaker coverstock.  I'm a medium speed, low rev player and I like to play up the boards primarily.  I'm looking for a ball I can use for all three games in leagues.  I bowl on an older wood surface with synthetic pin decks.  The lanes have not been resurfaced since June.  They put out a pretty basic medium to medium-heavy top hat.  Thoughts on the Vendetta Sniper?  I love the look of it, and I'm looking for something that goes a little bit longer, which is why I'm considering it over the Vendetta Black.

What other balls are you currently throwing on this shot, how are they working and what reaction do you want that they don't provide?

The Sniper is a great piece for sure (love mine), but there might be a better choice in DT's line-up...but we need more info first.

The Black will not go longer, it has the same core, and a solid cover.

The Sniper is a part pearl, the pearl will give you the length and the particle will allow you to handle the carrydown if you run into any. Both balls are great benchmark equip, MHO is the solid will cause you to make more adjustments throughout the 3 game set. I added a light coat of compound on my Sniper, over the 2000 grit surface, now I get 2-3 feet more length with a more pronounced backend, but without the snap. Still crosses the carrydown, still packs a wallop.

I had been starting off with a V2 Power.  It works fine for the first game, maybe two, but then as the heads start to dry out it suffers.  It starts reading too early and not conserving any energy for the backend, so even if I can adjust and get it into the pocket, it hits weak.  I've tried using plain pearl reactives from the start, but they don't seem to have enough on the fresh shot, so I was thinking maybe a particle pearl will give me what I need.

Even nib with the 2000 grit surface it gets plenty of length, an excellent benchmark ball, versatile piece of equip.

Also, do you have any drilling recommendations for me if I do pick this up?  My PAP is 4 1/8 over and 1/8 up, and my track is about 2 inches from my thumb hole.  (I don't know exactly what that means...am I a low tracker??)  I would like decent length but also enough bite for a fresh pattern.

It's hard to say, without a rev rate and speed its a shot in the dark. I prefer 4-1/2 x 3-1/2, good length and awesome backend recovery. But that is for my game. 15.5 - 16.0 mph with above average rev rate for ball speed. I use the same pattern on most of my equipment, just change the pin position in relation to the finger position and add or take down the cover to get the exact look I need or fit between other balls being used. This applies to only symetric cores.
