Is it possible to get more backend out of my Centrifugal
« on: February 20, 2006, 09:36:33 AM »
with the current layout? It is layed out 3-3/4 x 2-3/4 and the weighthole is 1" in diameter and is 3" deep. My question is...is it possible to get more backend by plugging the current weighthole and moving it? I have included a picture of the ball and have my PAP marked in the picture. I like the ball, but it just lacks in the back.

Thanks for any suggestions you might have.

The ball looks like it has the box finish, have you tried polishing it?  More polish means more energy retained until the back end.

Its not OOB right now. I have tried it at 600 dull and 1000 dull. At 600 dull it gave an earlier read, but not enough on the back. 1000 dull gave it too much length and the same reaction on back. The current finish is 220 grit hit with Brunswick's Ruff Buff and then finished with Bruns Factory Finish. I have had luck with lots of other balls with this finish. Right now it is a medium-medium light oil ball. I'm fine with that as long as I have a nice pop at the back.

Wow... looks like my layout except my cg was kicked out farther requiring a larger hole... Mine is 2000 abralon and it is almost too much backend... So as far as advice, it is hard to say without knowing how long the patterns you bowl on. It's unusable for me at anything below 1000 except when I was on the 42ft Sport Shot pattern where you need the midlane grab to even out the backend.

I LOVE this ball at 2000 on the THSs I bowl in UT... It looks like I get 25% more revs and definitely the most dynamic move off the breakpoint I have ever experienced.

There is a good article about weight hole placement on the Ebonite tech site, might help you out:

REMEMBER.........this is a pretty darn strong asymmetrical ball,...with the CAP that far out, you're going to get some NICE midlane which means your backend will be sacrificed a bit.  (it's not bad,...it's just the layout)

Jeff, thats whats so weird. At anything above 600 grit dull, the ball does'nt have much midlane either. I get a nice modlane read at 600 but its REAL smooth and light arc. This is on a medium oil shot. Now at the current cover prep, it barely even moves anywhere on the same shot. Right now I have to use it on medium-light to get much out of it. I am going to take it back to 600 dull for now so that I can use it during league.(medium medium-heavy) I just expected a stronger ball than what I'm seeing.

Oh, and I feel like a dumbass, but the layout measurements I gave in the forst post are pin to pap and cg to pap. I forgot that the bottom measurement is based off CAP to pap. That means its a 3-3/4 x 4-3/4 with cg kicked out 1-1/4 from grip center. Pin is also 1-1/2 above the midline. Sorry for the rookie mistake.
