L..O..N..G PIN DRILLING
« on: November 05, 2003, 04:47:04 PM »
What's the best way to drill a ball with a pin to cg over 4",
I usually like shorter pin balls but this one (blk Vendetta)
happened to come my way...jime

To one of the best bowlers on this site, I shouldn't try but I will!

em, What I've seen off the pro tour for these pin out balls is often a pin near the ring finger(a little above or out) and the cg down about 1/2 inch to an inch and a weighthole down below the grip midline(1/2 inch to 1 inch) and out slightly in relation to the pin and a weighthole out on the VAL on a line from grip center thru cg).

The pros I've seen use this claim it still gives good control of the midlane and a strong backend.

Another real good bowler I've seen lately had a slightly lower topweight ball that looked great with no weighthole and pin side of ring finger and up and cg again down below grip midline but back towards grip center.

Ball had some thumb and some top weight.  Early start and still big backend!!

In other words guys are introducing a little thumb weight and earlier rev on this big pin out balls and getting big backend and good early  control of the midlane.  Versus just big backend with little midlane if cg is on grip midline.

Hope this works.

REgards,

Luckylefty
PS I just drilled a reaction roll stacked with cg 1/2 inch down from grip midline.  Nice, see my review.

LL:, I like the first one, I'm thinking about the pin up, and in the middle
of the bridge, and bring the cg about 3" right of the center on my grip line and
about a 1/2 under the grip line....then a hole either at 6", or in the cg, to get the static sw back to less than a 1/2 oz pos sw...???  thoughts..??

There putting em on a line from the grip center thru cg out towards val or past it.Like your 6 inch from grip center idea.  (hole is more level with thumb almost.

Have not seen one with hole on cg but that is an interesting idea?
I would think not much backend in that case.

I could do a 6" hole, bringing it down about an inch would be a line from
the center of grip, and thru the cg,...and then I could angle the hole
to keep the fw/tw in tact....I like it...??

Pretty fast revving drill!

REgards,

Often requires more polish than drill with cg on grip midline.

I had another VenBlk ball drilled neg pin, with a pos cg straight down below the ring finger, putting the cg about 1 outside the thumb hole...in box surface which is kinda matte, I got a lot of revs and hook-stop,...shined it up and I got mega revs and not much reaction or hit...I'm thinking that I may want to try and swap out this long pin ball...

My stacked drilling cg down reaction roll is NOT hook stop it is a mega inside ball!  The cg out makes the hook stop.

My reaction Roll is a REv finish(or close to the hole ball).  I love it!

REgards,

Maybe that would give you something you'd like.

I would love to be able to use this ball and play deep, that's my A game anyway.   maybe something like this would work.
             P
          O O

         -----
             cg
           O
If I need a hole, it would be in the thumb quad...??

Putting the Pin near the VAL wouldn't hurt either. Ex if you had a 5" pin and layed it out just inside your about 4" up near the VAL this will maintain core height and keep the ball more angular at the break.
