I picked up an Element AU79 from a fellow BR user last week. The span was a little long, but I was very anxious to try it out. I couldn't get a really good hold on the ball & for obvious reasons ball speed & rev rate suffered.
So off to the proshop for a little plug & drill action we go.....
I had the AU79 redrilled with the same span & thumb pitches as my Anomaly. Now, last night I got a chance to throw the freshly redrilled ball. To my surprise, I still couldn't get the ball to rev up! So back into the shop & had some brand new power lift grips installed. Made a bit of difference, but I cannot get nearly the revs on this ball as I can with my anomaly.
I'm not totally dissappointed with the reaction of the ball. It covered alot of boards & hit like a truck but I was very puzzled with the look of the roll on this ball.
Is this a trait of this ball? Or maybe the way it's drilled? Or perhaps the proshop gaffed on the thumb pitch? ( I did notice a small bit of discomfort on the inside of my thumb joint but I thought that it was just a lack of bevelling... maybe not?). I know that I can get a ton of revs out of my anomaly, but the same release definately does not produce the same look on the AU79.
Drillings on the two balls are as follows:
AU79 - pin over bridge, CG on centerline of grips, 3" pin to CG no balance hole
Anomaly- pin beside ring, CG stacked below, 3" pin to CG balance hole 3 1/4" from CG (C/L of span, CG & X-hole all inline)
Can anyone shed some light on this for me?
