Title: Other guy / New Guy Question
Post by: cpo_bee on November 13, 2006, 09:32:06 PM
My first foray into an assymetric (sp?) core was a complete flop, bought a Total Shock and Awe (I know, I know, don't believe the hype) at the suggestion of my driller.  Could not get it to come off of the spot at all.  All it did was lope down the lane and never give a positive roll at the end.  Last night I was 11 right with my feet and 4 right at target of my AU79 and still couldn't get a decent snap and carry was horrendous.  Should I be wary of a Threshold or a CM?  I'm looking for something for the soup and that Morich ball was definitely not the answer.

If it's the Soup you want;  It's the Threshold you get!!!

be wary that you may not have been throwing that ball on a good condition for it, I have said a million times, if you have a ball that is supposed to be much less aggressive and it is hooking more than your "Big hook ball" then you are most likely seeing your big hook ball burning up.  Wait on that ball till you can make your Au79 move THEN try it, if its no good then, sell it based on that previous hype at an over market price.   O Just for giggles, take it out and roll it dead down the center of the lane with normal rotation, see if it gets moving off the point then, if so you have confirmed burning.  Or you could slap a coat of polish on it and see if that makes it hook more for the same answer.

I tried many surfaces and about 6 different conditions.  OOB it burned up immediately, tried a LITTLE polish, lope city.  Used a pad on the LITTLE polish, lope city.  Fluffed it, gave it the full wrist cup, and every hand position in between, never turned over.  Used it on a gutter shot where the AU79 was ripping, never came off the spot.  On a track shot I used in the track, inside the track and outside the track, never came off the spot anywhere.  Gave it up last night, sold it back to my driller.  He has a Centrifugal Mass in the shop we might try, he's trying to talk me into trying a Big or Infinite One.  Best thing is he is willing to work with me on price (straight up trade for new ball) until we get what I'm looking for.

Just one more thing on edit, in desperation last night we polished the crap out of it, still NOTHING.  In the shop someone made the comment that assymetricals were not good for my end over end roll, that was where my question came from.

Ahh, you didn't mention that you changed surface, did you try to drill it according to MO's sheet for you drill?

As a current owner of four different MoRich products and a Threshold, when placed in the hands of a proper driller and a decent operator, there's few shots on the planet that bowlers can't get the ball to make the proper move to the pocket.  However, if you're trying to get one of these hook monsters to move on a shot with low oil volume on the lanes, you're simply playing with the wrong piece of equipment.  A TS&A is a beast on the right shot.  I can only hope that it's drilled properly for you and the condition on which it was intended to be used on.

drilled another Threshold this evening John, 4 1/4 x 5 x 3, pin at 1:00 to the ring, no x hole, high rev high spped bowler, his first Assy core ball to go with his High Energy, this ought to entertaining tomorrow night watching it go sideways. Same layout I had on my first U-Turn or "boomer rang Threshold". Cap is in the thumb, when he throws it I'm yelling DUCK ITS COMING BACK AT US!!!!

It's a shame when bowlers can't get the right combination of condition & ball after they've bought an "oiler" or a "hook monster".  That's why it's so important to have a driller/coach that's able to orchestrate a ball reaction based on your abilities, conditions, and budget.
