Title: Polishing SOAKER balls?
Post by: Ric Clint on February 03, 2005, 06:53:42 PM
It's been said on here to not use chemical cleaners like Track's Clean N' Dull, etc... on the SOAKER coverstock balls because the chemical's in the cleaner and the chemicals in the ball DON'T mix. And the ball can be hurt/ruined.

But after about every 10-15 games my pearl soaker balls (and even solids) start to dull down from use and I would like to keep them highly polished. But you're suppose to clean a ball first before you polish it so you won't be putting polish on top of dirt.

So what do you do?

Just use DAWN or something every 10-15 games right before you Re-Polish the ball? Or give it a Hot Water bath with DAWN after every 10-15 games and then Re-Polish?

Or just put on the polish every 10-15 games without any cleaning beforehand?

I am curious to hear what others do as well. I clean my soakers every 15-20 games with simple green and water mixed 50/50. I only do this to get the belt marks and such of the cover. If there are no belt marks, then I don't clean'em.

I actually use some 409 on eather a towl and just rub it on the ball or put it on aball spinner with 409 on a  towl it works great. 409 really takes the dirt off the ball i use it on my thing returns all the time, and all my other dyno thane stuff.

I called DT and i think i talked to a guy named Bill, he told me Tracks clean & dull was fine to use on my thing lives, said it was a great product.

Hmmm... I could have sworn that a couple of months ago on here, that New Guy said NOT to use Track's Clean N' Dull because the chemicals in that cleaner and the chemicals in the soaker balls DON'T match.

???

Did my Thing last week before league with Storm #2 estimate it's at about 1500 grit shine right now.  Needed more energy stored in ball made a nice difference.

What I actually said, I believe was that I did not recommend using any chemical cleaners, that I personally would use Soap and water. I could not support any products in particular since I did not test them ( they are not our products) since soap and water worked fine. I like other guy do not spend much if any time cleaning surfaces so we can determine durability etc. I will say that if a chemical were used and it detracted from performance we would not be liable to should not be expected to replace or credit the product.
