Remedy Coverstock?
« on: July 15, 2008, 01:54:39 PM »
I'm 99% sure this ball was made by Storm, 1 year or so after they bought DT.
http://www.bowlingballreviews.com/ball.asp?ballid=39

I believe it is a solid resin, first made around June 2001.
Does anyone know which Storm Coverstock was used in its shell: Accu-Tread, Curelyon, or ______ ????

Thanks.

I'd ask over on the Storm forum. You might get a quicker answer there if a Storm rep sees it.

My guess would be Accu-Tread. The Curelyon coverstock was last used on the Barbed Wire, I think, and before that the Hot Rod. By 2001, it was a pretty tame coverstock. **EDIT: Pro-Glide was on the Wire balls.**

Judging from some of the other Storm balls made around that time, PRO-Thane and its derivatives were used a lot, as was Accu-Tread. In fact, those two and a coverstock called "Cadmium" are the only three I could find on any Storm ball made in 2001.

Not sure about it being tame. Tamer, yes. It is tame these days: see the reactions on the Jolt series. Mine is fairly tame right now, with a polish on it. That why Accu-Tread was my first guess.

Had the PHD model my guess is also accutread, seems to be what I remember from way back when it was Storm made. Phil would know the answer it was his company by then from Ron Wood from vegas.

I think he meant that Curelyon was a tame coverstock, even by 2001's standards, not Accutread.

Yes, I meant Curelyon was tame by 2001, not Accu-Tread. My X-Factor Deuce still hooks out of the building (Accu-Tread solid).

Well, I have an X factor Deuce....love it but smooth off the spot compared to my SuperCharge with ......Monsoon! (that was a jerky beast!)

I also have a Remedy!  Smooth like butter off the spot.  I also have an old very beat up ElNino with curleyon.  That sucker is rumbling and smooth AND strong!

So....I dont't how weak curelyon is....but!  I'm guessing my Remedy(seldom used is accutread!)  The smooth stuff.

REgards,

Luckylefty
PS I have had the above mentioned X Deuce drilled with mass bias strong.  It was still smooth but much more angular than with the mass bias slightly on track side of the thumb!
PPS with the core on the Remedy I would describe that ball as more midlane than backend.  Great for some jumpy leagues but suspect on most carrydown!

Depends on the surface. Mine is currently polished. Still very arc-y.

always a disclaimer when I post on your posts lately.

When you dull it....does it get snappier?

Disclaimers because there are no absolutes in bowling. Everything depends on something else, some other factor. Always!

I used it last year at 2000 grit Abralon. It was smoother but grabbed the lane earlier. Similar arc-y backend.

I just received a reply from Hank Boomershine of Roto-Grip. He was associated with DT at the time of the Remedy. The Remedy had what DT called the SH3 coverstock. Hank's reply:
"The closest Storm resin to the SH3 would have been Curelyon or a slightly milder version of Accu-Tread."

My current ball reaction with a lightly polished Remedy seems to validate this.

This seems to validate both of our thinking....not real sharp off the spot!

Since Hank said that SH3 was "slightly milder than Accu-Tread" and DT called the Remedy coverstock "SH3 +", I assume that the resultant coverstock ws their equivalent to Accu-Tread.

The Remedy, with a Valentino Resurrection underlayment (~800 grit) plus a light shine from Snake Oil, with its highish RG of 2.55 and its medium differential of .040",  seems to be reacting, as I would imagine a polished Accu-Tread cover with that core would react.
