CM= "Crank Monster" or "Can't Move?
« on: October 09, 2006, 02:04:23 AM »
I've been seeing posts saying their CM is a turd.  I have had one for almost a year, drilled with CAP on VAL, Pin unbder ring 4" from PAP, and it is an absolute monster.  It does not move as violently as the Threshold, but being partical pearl vs Solid/Pearl I expected that.  My CM is only good for the first game or 2 and then it has to go away.  What are you guys finding?

IMO it using the wrong ball for the situation, or a poorly matched surface to oil pattern. Most cases the HP balls are burning up causing them to hit very weak. Not many houses put out enough oil to make the CM and Thres an effective useable piece. Our house has the oil, but due to the number of HP balls being used they have increased the volume of oil to help keep the shot from breaking down so quickly.

The CM I had was not a bad ball by any means. It hit and carried great. However it was extremely mild for the drilling that was on it. I tried lots of cover changes, but it never seemed to handle more than medium-light oil. On a fresh medium shot it was ok for playing straight up as long as there was some dry. Once there was carry down, put it up. On lighter oil it was nice and could recover from a deeper line. I tried everything from 600 grit to 2000 grit with and without polishes. The Threshold on the other hand is very aggressive and OOB is hard to use on anything under medium-heavy.

Legends; What drilling did you have on it?

I have noticed people with the CAP in Power Postion have had much less luck with this ball compared to bowlers with CAP on VAL or Below Thumb.  Just an observation.

If I remember correctly, I beleive it was 3-1/2 pin to pap X 4" Cap to pap and the cg was kicked about 1-1/2" right of grip center. Pin was a little over 1-1/2" above midline. Here is a picture I found on my computer of it.

Interesting, It is close to the same drill as mine.  It is hard to see where the CAP ends up in that picture.

You can see the edge of the Cap in the picture. Its right of thumb near VAL and well below the thumb hole.

I like my CM...but I had to polish it to make it usable, much better with the right surface prep to condition match up.

I bought this to be my oiler.  I have had no complaints.  Mine is drilled very similar to Legends drilling.  Handles carrydown well, however when the heads burn up, it goes back in my bag.
