Terminator review on the Thing, I have to disagree
« on: May 05, 2003, 08:23:43 AM »
But only on your rating of the hit.  I've thrown this ball and have seen it thrown on numerous times and every time I've seen it or thrown it the Thing hit hard.  Very hard.  Lots of pin scatter and messengers on light hits, flush well almost anything carries flush, but on slightly high hits it doesn't leave the ugly splits that others seem to leave due to the Thing's type of backend. Besides what you said about the hit, I echo the other aspects of your review 100%.   Keep in mind that I am not saying you are wrong so don't take it personal like some undisclosed ball rep on this site.  I am just saying that I found it to be different for me.  Great review and great ball.

New Guy...since the original Thing is a pearl/solid resin...are we gonna see something like a pearl/solid particle? That would be cool but I dont know if its possible...Anyways, I have to agree with Pchee and T3...this ball is great and the best ball ive seen in years.....keep up the good work!

One with more length?   What????  You have my attention on that one.  The Thing is a little strong for me because there is an oil embargo here in the northern bay area, however, a Thing with more length would certainly be someTHING that I am interested in.  I have the original Heat, the Threat, and the only ball I'm missing is the Thing.

It's going to be called the "Long Thing".

Would the hooking one be the "sticky thing"?

I can hear it now... all the ladies will be complimenting how my Long Thing curves.  I just hope it holds up in the oil.

Seriously though, I have two Things.  The first one with pin about 1:30 2" away from my ring finger and CG about 2" from my center grip.  It hooks feet.  The other one, my favorite, has the pin between the fingers and the CG dead center in my grip.  I even added some polish to this ball.  It goes plenty long and still has a lot of pop in the backend.  It's the first ball out of the bag for me now.  That's saying a LOT because the Vendetta Particle has been my favorite ball since the day it came out... to the point iI've drilled up four of them.  In my triple ball bag I take to league I have The Thing and two Vendetta Particles.

If you have not played with the coverstock on The Thing, try it if you are looking for more length.  It seems far more responsive to polish than The Element was for me.

I know Phil has mentioned the concept of releasing different flavors of Thing.  Just don't hold your breath.  He makes very deliberate decisions with ball releases, unlike other ball companies.  The ball coming out next month is not a Thing.  So it may be a while before he's prepared to release another high end ball.

My advice is to get another Thing.  Drill it up for maximum length... pin inside and high.  Throw it with out-of-box surface.  You can always add polish to tighten the line.  This ball is so good, there's no reason not to get two of them.
