The Thing Lives!
« on: May 13, 2007, 11:03:07 AM »
I wanted to try a 15lb ball due to a hand injury. (trying to avoid surgery) and my friend gave me this Dyno-Thane about 3 weeks ago. Our span is really close just a bit larger thumb hole. I was going to take it in to the pro shop to redo the thumb but I have been busy with work. Tuesday I shipped my regular equipment to Reno for nationals so all I had to throw was my Morich Rev and the Dyno-Thane. I threw the rev first and it was rolling ok. Then after the first game I wanted to try the Dyno-Thane. My first shot hit so hard that I knew I was done with the Morich. then after the next 11 for my 3rd 300 (1 sanctioned) I have decided to look a lot harder at the Dyno-Thane line. I just cant believe I have missed out all this time on a great ball like the thing lives. Can anyone tell me what other balls Dyno-Thane makes that is a must have ball? Thanks.

T-Bone,

I know exactly what you mean.  I was late to the party myself.  I have the Threshold, Threshold NGS and Pure Energy right now.  I just won an auction on ebay for the Vendetta Black Solid and the High Energy.  Of the ones I have thrown, I would try and find the Pure Energy.  It is a Soaker Particle and it is the smoothest rolling, hardest hitting ball I have ever thrown.  I just picked up another NIB with a longer pin that I will drill pin over ring.  If you can find one, you won't be disappointed.  If you have any other questions, feel free to message me.  Congratulations on the 300!

The Thing Lives and the Black Vendetta are the two must-haves.  Oddly, both are dull solids.  Must be something in the sandpaper.  I've got a TL and it's an awesome ball.  Lots of midlane, plenty of backend.  Doesn't usually start up too early, either.  You've got a great piece, it was my first DT as well.  I wouldn't mind having a Black, but they're harder to find now and I can't buy now anyway.  I think the first 300 Global ball (spiritual successor to DT) will be similar to it (just a guess).

I also have an Energy, it's a great piece as well.  About as strong as my TL, I wish it would handle less oil, but I'll wait until I get my spinner to change the surface.

Send a PM to tekneek, he's pretty good for leftover DT equipment.  I think he's got a Pure Energy for about $65 in 15#, if you want something for more oil than your TL, that'll cover it.  It's also a Soaker like the TL.  Joe has one or two as well.

I wish I'd been able to buy more DT balls before the buyout.  Since Phil (newguy, former owner of DT) is starting up 300 Global, I think that'll be the next best thing.

Personally I love the Vendetta Sniper and Vendetta 44 Magnum...but are great balls that are powerfull / yet consistent and compliment each other very well.  The Pure Energy is also a favorite of mine on more demanding patterns or for blending severe wet / dry conditions.

Though my favorite Dyno has been long since discontinued...the Concept XXtra Swirl, SUCH a great ball.

personally, i have a 44 magnum that is great on fresh, medium oil. took it down to about 600, it's a 14 lber. so i can put some juice to it and it will come back strong on the back end. when the lanes start to break down, i go to the zr40 in oob. i threw that in our classic league for a couple of weeks and about 5-6 came up to me and asked what it was. it will go way long before it moves. both of these keep the pins low to the deck. i have a high energy but haven't had a chance to throw it much because of shoulder surgery. will definately try it when i get healthy. very underrated balls. not too many people in no. indiana throw then.

You can't go wrong with a 44 Magnum, Thing, Au79, or Thing Returns.
