I have not thrown the thing lives but have read enough reviews and comments to feel safe in saying that the medium shot is not enough oil.  Your ball is more than likely burning up pretty early which is why the overall hook isnt as much.  In order for you to use the thing lives to its full potential you'll need to find heavy oil.  Then you can do a comparison of the 2 and see which ball hooks more on that shot.

Got to agree with Wolfpack...

...I've thrown a Thing Lives next to a team-mates Thing Returns and I was a good 7 boards inside of his line to find enough oil for it to work correctly.

What is the surface on it? Is it factory finish or have you changed it? If it's in box finish..it should be hooking a good amount on a medium oil shot. It works well for medium up to heavy in box, but anything much less than medium and I would say it's probaly burning up. If you have taken the surface down below box(800) then it is probaly too much for medium.

Oh and for the record, I have thrown both on same shot many times and they are totaly different in reactions. TR will go long and flip hard on the back where as the TL on the same shot will read much earlier and start in the midlane and have a very strong but arcy move on the back.

The Thing Lives needs head oil or you will burn it up.

I'm not extremely knowledgable when it comes to different drillings, but if am thinking correctly...having the pin drilled 5" away from your PAP like that will give you Alot of extra length. I would say since its at 1000 grit and has polish along with that type drilling, its probaly getting too much length and not picking up a good roll. I would try taking the surface down to 800 grit and leave it dull. It should pick up a roll alot earlier.

I have polished a TL up to 2000 and it is a flip monster... the good thing is you can bring the Soaker surface up and down with no problems... give that a try too!
