Bamaster's Threshold - Part Deaux
« on: September 25, 2006, 08:04:43 AM »
Ok, so I was a little discouraged by the Threshold.  It hooked too much.  I was persuaded that I didn't have the right layout and surface, so I thought it only fair to give it a shot.

I drilled up another.  Pin 3" from PAP and Cap 4" from PAP.  Out of box surface. Should be strong and rolly.  I only got to throw it for a game or so before I had to head back to the office, but wow is this ball rolly.  Reads midlane and just keeps reading and never seems to stop.  I threw it side by side with my Element Zr40 and it's not even close.  Zr40 is much more tame.

It's early, but so far this ball is nice.  I need to see it on a flood to really get it to separate from the pack, I'm sure.  I'm thinking I could drill antoher one with the pin much higher and add some polish for a different look when I need to play deep inside.

Just thought I'd share a new perspective.

Tony,

Not sure how many mass bias/PSA cored balls you have "played" with, but they offer a world of adjustments. With that 3" pin you could also have a 6" CAP(/MB) position and I'd bet even you could play an outside line with enough oil (not a heck of a lot). That plus surface adjustments and I'd also bet you could make ALMOST an arsenal out of 4 or 5 of them.

Charlest,

That would work for most bowlers.  Bam is in the other part, not most.  Seeing him square up to the lane is like watching one of those surgery shows on Discovery Health Channel.  You spend most of the time wincing from the pain that is going on, and the rest of the time with your eyes closed so you don't throw up.  I don't think Tony knows there is air right of the big dot, he doesn't even stand right to shoot 7 pins.

Tony just refuses to take any hand out of the ball, and only has 16 mph speed at best.  His Threshold hit almost every board today.  Actually, it did roll very good.  One day, his will to be a good bowler will overcome his Latin sense of Machismo and he will learn that "Less is More".  I just hope it is while I am still alive.  He has good timing, and a fairly straight swing, great hand position, but he just wants to start a freakin lawn mower every time he throws a strike ball.

Do the words "Tony" and "hooked too much" even go together in the same sentence?  I did not believe such a thing to be possible...

Funny stuff. Mike. Poor Tony. I can empathize to a degree, but I have finally learned how to square up and believe it or not, carry improves ...
