Tony shot a 215, followed by a 264, to move into 6th place after 2 games on A squad.  Looks like he's doing pretty well with his new 14# D/T stuff!

Scores through 5 games:

38, Tony Melendez, Houston, 1,045

Looks like Tony needs some extra karma.  He's been sub-par for the past three games, gotta get back to plus territory to have any chance to make the cut.

Go Tony! Anomalize 'em!

He isn't the only one that seems to be struggling...for games 4-5, I noticed Norm Duke only posted a 375 (2 pins better than Bam).  Mike Austin needs some good vibes as well...954 through 5 and also roughly the same as Norm and Bam over the last couple of games.

223 in the 6th game, nice shooting, Tony!

If he stays plus over the last three games, he has a decent chance of making the first cut.

Michelle, thanks for the heads up on Mike Austin.  I hadn't noticed his name.

Congrats to Tony for making the top 64..

One other thing, I don't know if any of you have seen Wes Malott, from Austin, Texas throw a bowling ball, but he makes this game look really easy!! He is #2 right now and he is not far away from winning a PBA tour stop. He has won numerous SW regional titles and if he can keep his head together, he will have a real shot at he title on Sunday!! He always bowls well at DC West.

Good luck to all the Texans in the top 64 and bowling B squad!!

hehe...

Yeah, I had a great time over there.  First six games I was in the cash and felt confident in finishing strong.  Then I made the turn to the low end and it all went away.  Lanes 5&6 were tough on all, I shot 150 and there were two 160 games also on the pair.  Ball checked up midlanes and there was hang in the backends.  When I forced the ball through the midlane, it never recovered.  It was real easy to split and I did it a lot the last few games.

Remember that I just dropped from 15 to 14 lb equipment.  I only have 6 balls drilled up and I was using my Vendetta Particle the first six games... dang tht ball is nice.  But the VP was reading the midlane to much so I needed more skid and the same backend, I had nothing to go to.  The only ball I have weaker than the VP is my Barrage and the lanes were not that dry, but I had to use it... I had nothing else.

I had a great look out there, guys were lining up off me.  But when the lanes broke down I didn't have a ball I could go to.  I imagine the Vendetta Particle Pearl would have been a nice option, but mine were delivered to my house after I left.  And there are no 14 lb equipment in the PBA Truck.

I don't rely on equipment, but it is a necessary tool out there.  Bowling nine games, and most of the field playing the same line, the lanes transition a lot and harsh.  You have to have the ability to play extreme angles and have the equipment to do it with.  After moving to the low end of the house I knew I didn't have a ball for that.  I tried to grind out 200s but I got in too much trouble with designer splits.

The guys like Wes Malott were crushing them.  They had the ball speed to take the heads and midlane out of play and the hand to gett he ball back from anywhere.  He was throwing the Alter Ego I think and covered the whole lane, he put up quite a show.  Anyone who could power the lanes bowled well.

Overall I am happy. I bowled well when the lanes were hitable.  I didn't miss many easy spares at all.  But clearly I need equipment for the later games of the block.

Thanks for watching out for me.  It's nice to know that you guys are here.

Glad to hear that Wes had a nice showing.  I went to HS with him and have been keeping track of his progress this season.  That guy can flat out swing the ball.  Nice guy too.

Tony,

You had 6 balls with you, and nothing between the Vendetta Particle and the Barrage???

Sounds like the Vendetta red/black pearl would have been the right ball for that shot, no?

I've struggled with the Red Vendetta in the past, it stored too much energy and I'd get a too much of a jerk in the backend.  It's still an aggressive ball and my particle is really tamed down with polish.  It's the most control DT has....  so far.

I would have drilled one up if there was a 14 lb in the truck but there wasn't any 14s.  I had three blansk with me, a Vendetta Solid, Element, and Thing Returns.  These are all too strong for what I was looking for.

I'll have to get a few of the Particle Pearls and get creative with the drillings to get more length with ample recovery for the later games inthe block.
