The most versatile reactive ball on the market, the Vortex II, needed a companion. Something hot, on fire. Something to get through broken down heads and be able to kick it in down the lane. Shift into another gear. Well, turn on the Afterburner. Its Big Easyâ„¢ coverstock, pearlized and fortified with PET particles, allows the ball to be clean through the fronts. And, in conjunction with the medium RG, medium high flare domed R2 core, really haul some butt in the backends. Factory polished, this will be great for all styles when the lanes are medium to drier. Turn and burn.

Well I wasn't really suprised when Ebonite discountined the Vortex 1, it just didn't live up to the 2 or the 3. Well this ball does. I drilled this like a lot of my stuff these days and was really impressed with the lenght and control of this ball, and when I say control please do not think this ball is weak this ball has plenty of power. I was practicing on a 2nd shift condiiton and this ball was nothing short of awsome. This ball when it got to the breakpoint it unleashed at the pins. This ball reminds me of a polished Vortex2 which should make a lot of people very happy, who thought thats what the Vortex 1 was going to be. What a great addition to the Vortex family and another winner from Ebonite this ball gets a vey soild 9

this ball is nothing short of what ebonite claims it to be. the ball gets through the heads like a plastic ball. the midlane reaction is very controllable, and the backend is unbelievable. i bowled in the lexington kentucky 2001 Lady Ebonite pro am and got this ball, had it drilled between drilling number 1 and number 9. gets through the heads great, revs and grips the midlane, and thunders back to the pins, usually in the pocket, and packs a lot of hitting power that leads to good carry. i have thrown the ball for 2 weeks for 12 full games and have a 27 pin higher average. from a 201 with to APEX, to a 228 with the AFTERBURNER. awesome ball, very predictable, controllable, and powerful. 99 on a scale from 1-100

Well I drilled this one up a couple of days ago, and I went out last night and threw a couple of games with it.

I drilled it with the pin under my ringer finger and the cg kicked out towards my axis, around 3 1/2 or 3 3/4. Small weight hole to keep it legal.

They were on fire last night. The heads still had some oil but burnt from there.

The Afterburner was able to get to about 40 feet before makes a smooth controlled turn to the pocket. What I was expecting was a limp ball when it got to the pocket because of burn up from the overly dry lane condition, but this ball was able to retain enough energy to explode the pocket.

I think that will be a medium to light oil ball, and scuffed can probably hold its own in some medium to heavy oil conditions. This ball revs up pretty good, and hits hard when it gets to the pocket.

On a scale of 1-10, I would give the ball a 7. I think that you are going to need to keep the ball speed up so that this ball will hold the line. Since I was bowling on extreme dry last night, the ball showed as soon as I got a little slow with it, or pulled it. I think this is another great addition the the Vortex line, and I have to say that Ebonite is doing a great job, hitting their bowlers needs.

Bought this ball at one of the Web sites .. about a week after receiving it I took it to the Xperts Pro shop in Cary and had IRWYN ATKINSON drill it for me. Asked that he prepare the ball that it go long and snap into the pins. He assured me it could be done and he did a great job.

I stand on the 5 board and head the ball for the 3 pin (I pin bowl) and the ball jumps to the pocket right at impact. Like all proactive balls it gives great PIN action and the thing I like most, is the fact that you can establish a line and continuously throw it and KNOW your hitting the pocket. Coming in light on the head pin will still carry due to the good mix you will ALWAYS get.

Tremendously happy with the ball .. when bowling the lanes were fairly dry ..

Drilled stacked... Pin slightly above and to the right of ring finger, cg stacked just below about three inches (no weight hole needed). I got just what I expected from ebonite equipment...it has a very unattractive lope to it. However, it will suit my purpose for drilling it (medium dry lanes). I first rolled it on second shift synthetics (guardian) quite a bit of carrydown. I definitely had to catch the dry boards to get this ball to react. I played it straight down the boards. I was not able to get inside without using a tremendous about of wrist action (I have tendonitis so this is not a good thing for me). But once again it suits my purpose for drilling it. the afterburner will have no problem getting down the lane but you need some dry boards to get it to react respectfully. I will attempt to polish it up with some ebonite particle polish (I love that stuff and the "factory finish polish")to reserve some of the energy. I will roll it tomorrow and give another review if there are any significant differences. But overall since I do not believe there are any "bad" balls...this is a good ball to have if you want to play up the boards on medium dry conditions.

We had a specific need in mind when laying this ball out, due to the rev challenged status that i have attained i was looking for a ball that would clear the front and store enough energy when the lanes really started to go bye bye.
So we started by altering the surface, first some "quicksand" from ebonite to give us a consistent starting point then an application of particle polish followed by extender polish(all EBONITE products).
used a 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 layout with a small hole 1 inch past the pap and it was time to hit the lanes. this ball has been just what the ball rep ordered -
clearing the heads with ease and retaining energy so that as we have to move left the ball delivers plenty of HIT. the afterburner has quickly become a "go to" ball in second shift leagues and 4th and 5th games in tournament blocks.
looks like just another winner from - the good folks at EBONITE.

Recently purchased this ball at 15lbs. and have thrown just a few games with it. Drilled for full roller leverage with pin location at 7:30 3-3/8 from grip center. I played this ball after the second league on wooden lanes laid out with a standard 10-10 pattern. I throw the ball with slow to medium speed and straight down the boards with minimal side turn.

After some line up shots along the 10 board, I needed to move inside because the ball would just turn across the heads too sharply. I then played down the 3rd arrow(which is pretty far inside for me) and found my line. I was able to hold this line and had good carry, pulling out a 240 game.

I believe that this is a "condition-specific" ball out of the box and will be best for most house league shots. I don't think the ball will play very well on floods or deserts and it isn't designed for that. Once lined up, the ball was easy to control, carried well and I could play the same line for a continued period of time without needing to adjust.

I believe that this ball will be a great complement to my Pantera when the Pantera is too much ball for the lanes. I will be trying the Afterburner on my next Wed league 1st shift synthetic lanes next week and may add a follow-up to this review. At this point, I believe this to be another good "condition specific" ball from Ebonite.

This is a follow-up to my first review on this ball. I bowled on 1st shift synthetic lanes tonight with a heavier oil pattern and some carry down. Playing down the 10-board the ball still came back solid to the pocket with good carry. I shot a 607 series, my first 600 series of the year which is very encouraging since I had been struggling to even reach 500.

Even with my full-roller leverage drilling this ball can get it done.

I drilled up 2 of these balls because of the success I`ve had with the vortex 2.I drilled one of them with the pin over the bridge and cg off label just a little.This ball works great from deep inside angles,gets down the lane well with a strong backend reaction.I drilled the other ball with the pin under the ring finger and cg off label(10:30 type drilling).This ball works better when there is more oil and I need more hook.This ball seems to work well from inside and outside angles depending on amount of oil or amount of carry down.These balls are part of my main arsenal whenever I go bowl.These are versitile balls and I don`t think anyone would be dissappointed with one in their bag either.Good luck

this ball is nice

. i play a fairly strait up outside line with this ball and it is working. i reciently shot a new high game of 257, and my first 600 series with it.

This ball is great!!!!!!!
I borrowed my friends Afterburner after he sanded it b/c the polished surface just wasnt doin anything for him. Well he may not have liked it too much but i sure as hell did. I shot 224 my only game with it. No complaints here. When this ball is sanded, good things happen for me. For my friends who threw it, there wasnt much of a difference, for me MUCHO difference. It had the ripping backend of the polished surface along with the tremendous roll of a dulled ball. Once i found a line, KACHING and an occasional BOOYA! I might take it from him if he still isnt pleased withthe results, but for now I'll settle for knowing that there is a ball out there that i have a 224 average with!

The Vortex Afterburner is a nice pearl particle compliment to the Vortex 2. I have 3 Afterburners with same layout as the Vortex 2. The layouts are a 5x5 stack label pin high, 5x3 with pin high hole in PAP and a 5x4 pin under the fingers with low hole 3 inches below PAP on the vertical axis line. My positive axis point (PAP) is 5 1/4 by 3/8 up. The Vortex Afterburner glides through the front part of the lane unless lanes are starting to break down considerably. In fresh condition situations where my Vortex 2's are too angular in the midlane I can switch to the same layout in an Afterburner to calm down the midlane reaction and still provide powerful roll. In comparison to the Apex's the Afterburner is smoother through the heads and more of a seems to have a stronger roll but not as angular as the Apex's. I would recommend the Afterburner to anyone with medium speed who needs a ball that will help out on fresh hooking wet/dry conditions and or persons that had success with the Vortex 2 or any of the high performance Brunswick zones.

I have drilled 2 of these balls, one of them 4x4 stacked and the other pin 1 1/2 inch, CG 2 1/2 inches from PAP. The stacked ball hooked too strong on the back when I went down the lanes and not strong enough when I opened the lanes up. I tried a little surface change with little success. The other ball layout, made the ball move earlier and then quit. This is a very good reaction in regionals when the shot is on the edge. However, it doesn't match good on house patterns unless they are short and the back ends are hooking. I let a friend with a big hand and more axis rotation than myself use my 4x4 and he had no trouble with the ball quitting when he opened the lane up, as he always does. I feel it is a good ball for low track players or big handed ones.

I must start by saying....what an awesome ball!

My Afterburner is 4x4 with a 3" pin. The pin is to the left and under the ring finger and the cg is in the thumb quadrant (rev lev).

I bowl on a late league where the lanes are usually heavy to medium oil with carry down. Last night I stood between 25-30 and played between 3rd and 4th arrows and was in the pocket all night long. There were no big games (no 300s or 279s); not the fault of the ball but the bowler. I must say I was very impressed with the ball reaction on that type of condition by this ball being for medium to drier condition.

All and all I must say....THANKS EBONITE!....I give this ball an 8 on a scale of 1-10.
