Our pro shop received our 8 ball package on the new Ebonite release.  I liked the color on this Tornado, so I drilled it.   I put the pin outside my ring finger and the CG in the center of the palm.  I used it in a league on 1st shift, with fresh oil.  I started the night with my Tiger, which I have already reviewed, and used that for 3 games, toward the end of the 3rd game I began to have trouble getting the ball down the lane.  I went an picked up the Red/Silver Tornado.  I was able to move back to were I started the night and get the ball down the lane without a problem. I used the Tornado for the end of the 3rd game and the whole 4th game.

The reaction for this drilling helped carry the ball down the lane and then a little punch at the backend.  This is what I needed in the ball.  This ball will be less than my Stinger 2-piece pearl, having less whip in the backend.

On a scale of 1-10, I would give this ball a 6.5.  I think a lot of beginning bowlers will like this ball, and it is in the same range as a Scout or other low-end 3-piece type balls.  I think that it will be useful to tournament bowlers, especially the ones that have to stand in front of the ball returns.  This ball is able to get down the lane and give you some punch on the back.  It has good hitting power for a low-end ball.

The Tornado is a good entry level price resin ball, or a ball for hooking lanes.  I drilled the Red/Silver Pearl Tornado with a 5x4 pin high label layout.  My positive axis point (PAP) is 5 1/4 by 3/8 up.  This was a much stronger ball than I was expecting, when compared with a shiny black resin Gyro ball with similar layout, both balls easily cleared the front part of the lane but the Tornado had a more angular midlane hook.  This is definitely a ball for broken down lane conditions that are hooking. The double puck/offset core design helps the Tornado store up energy and will hook in that situation for those with medium/soft ball speed.  This is NOT a home run ball for oily lanes, but most of the problems I hear about lane conditions, when discussing ball reaction with customers is with hooking lanes, and most bowlers own TOO MANY balls for oily conditions and few if any for hooking lanes.  The Tornado's performance and price suggest that it should be a must ball in many people's arsenals.

I drilled this one 4 3/4 strong. Good ball for dry lanes in league. However, on some PBA patterns during the second block, where the heads are blown up but there is still oil in the back end, this ball with my limited hand had trouble reading the back end. However, this is a condition most bowlers won't see, and the ball will react good when the lanes are just dry.

I drilled this one with the pin over the bridge.This is a great league ball.This ball gets down the lane when the lanes are dry.This may be one of Ebonites best kept secrets.Great ball at a great price.

As I said I have all Tornados drilled the same with a 5 inch pin just above the bridge. This ball is good for medium to no oil.  It works best when the lanes start to hook.  Again for the price these are very good low end price balls.

Originally i bought this ball for drier lane conditions but it has grown on me  and is now my primary ball. A couple of weeks ago I bowled my first 1000 pin 4 game series with it, 257, 278, 258, 233. A week later I cruised to a very easy 700+ (3 game series) whilst qualifying for our local championships 259, 269, 212 (easing off the mental intensity for the last game after i knew i had qualified after the first 2) and then turned around and bowled a 218 avg over 12 games in the local masters. This ball has a beautiful ability to carry the lanes and blow the pins away, it is also a great ball for sparing.

I am now looking forward to see what i can do with the new Optyx Illusion.

Hi, I have the green/purple color of this ball, It reacts very well, Since I palm the ball throwing about 17-18 mph every shot. I like to crank it about throwing it to the outside and letting it come sailing in the pocket. So far my highest set with is a 660, For beginners I think it would be a good ball, Since it doesn't have much hook on it.

I just got this ball last week. My pin is on the right side my of index finger and the ball is just awsome. I threw this and the first series I shot with this was over 750. I shot 268 and 254 and a 239 with it. If you need a ball that is not very expensive pick up a Tornado. I have to tell you that Ebonite knows how to make some good equipment now and they will always have my business.

Just realized I never posted a review on this one.
4" pin drilled 5x5 (high track)
Lots of speed and revs

In my never ending quest to find a good dry lane ball, I punched one of these up about 2 years ago. Never have bowled with it often, in fact I just sold it off. This ball for me could never be thrown on the light to dry lane conditions. The Scout hooked less than this, looked like any medium oil ball. The thing that surprised me was how much flare I got out of the ball. I expected it to skid but this ball had too strong of a cover, you saw a defined move in the midlane before making a hard snap. The core wants to keep going but the cover really digs in. The reason why I got rid of it was because I have better equipment for this condition. I have thrown balls that hooked much less than this and feel that Ebonite marketed this one a little off. Not a light oil ball for anyone with hand. But could be a great ball for anyone looking for a cheap punch. Ever since I've been a little scared to buy Ebonite "light oil" equipment.
