Hello everyone,
I am a lefty with a rev rate in the mid 300s. I throw between 16-19 mph depending on the condition. I have 7 degrees of axis tilt and my axis rotation varies. My personal PAP is 4 7/8" over and 5/8" up.
I have drilled up two Evolves.
Evolve #1
(Dual Angle Layout)-30 X 5" X 70. extra hole 1" drill bit 2.5" deep 1" below PAP.
Surface is kept between 500 and 1000 grit abralon.
Evolve #2
5" pin to PAP below fingers, 5.5" MB to PAP, CG near grip center, no extra hole.
Surface is kept between 1000 and 2000 grit abralon.
I have thrown these balls on THS, and Shark (2009)
THS- The Evolve is a very strong piece, DO NOT let the core numbers fool you. It may have a higher RG than most high performance balls, but the diff. is right up there with all of the other hook monsters. I was able to stay in the oil and make minor speed/hand position adjustments. I can really only use the Evolve #2 on this type of condition, but I do not need to play 4th arrow in league. I am saving these ball for the slick stuff.
Shark- I had the opportunity to throw Evolve #1 on the Shark in a regional event and it gave me a nice look. I actually went back and forth between Evolve #1 and an NVD (2000 grit abralon, 5" pin to PAP above fingers, MB in thumb, extra hole 4.5" from center of grip through cg 7/8" wide 2" deep). Due to the fact that the Evolve is pin down it allowed me to shut down my angles and stay firm through the front part of the lane which was amazing b/c on longer patterns it's easy to skate past the break point. I'm still learning the "new" shark as I found it to play like a reverse block. There was a puddle outside of ten and inside was toasty. The best strategy seemed to be spinning it through the heads, or throwing harder keeping the ball on line.
I like what I see from the Evolve, but I personally can't use it unless I run into a lot of oil. This is not a bad thing though as I can reserve these pieces strictly for that condition. This ball also does something that I think Ebonite has struggled with in the past and that is "CONTINUATION." This ball goes through the pins very well and never seems to run out of gas despite the strong cover/core combo.
This is Ebonite's premier piece for higher amounts of oil!
Thanks for reading my review and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.
