BALL SPECS

Pin Length:3.25

Starting Top Weight:3

Ball Weight:15

BOWLER STYLE

Rev Rate:350

Ball Speed:15

PAP/Track:4 7/8 x 1

I had already drilled 2 of the GB2's (40x4x40, 2k, and 30x5x50, 3k), with the idea to keep the low rg of these balls low, and put an empahsis on the early roll. These balls roll great on house patterns, but as the night gets later I tend to have a hole in my arsenal when I switch to my Salute. It can get a touch to long and snappy due to the coverstock. This is where my GB2 will come into play.

I have drilled my GB2 Gold with a 65x4x35 and finished it with a 2k, then polish. The roll is exatly what I needed. It creates the length of the Salute, but gives me a little earlier roll and the shape of the GB2. I played with the coverstock quite a bit, and even at 4k with no polish the ball had a great read at the end of the pattern and good direction through the pins. For now I think the 2k/p looks the best for me.

LANE CONDITION

Let me start by saying - Im not a staffer and I have no reason to give anything other than my Opinion about a ball, good or bad
LH, 385 rpm
medium track, 16 mph downlane
Used this ball on the short, medium and long sport pattern
I did not change surfaces, left ball at OBB finish
I was expecting to throw a few test shots on the short pattern and put it away figuring it wouldn't even be useable, well it wasn't bad, pretty smooth off the friction for the most part, had I dulled it up a bit, I'm sure it would have been better on that pattern.
On the medium pattern, it was really good after the pattern broke down a bit, it allowed me to stay in the same spot a while longer than normal
I could only use it on the long pattern when there was a friction spot I could use later on in the set. but it was 45' and decent volume, so this isn't what i wanted this ball for

Likes: I like the GB2 alot, it fits my game
So naturally, I had high hopes for this piece, it delivers in spades, great up front, great motion down the lane, so continuous and predictable

I received my ball with a 1" pin, so I had not much of choice for layout.
I have a number of pieces with the pin in my middle finger which is about a 5" pin-pap
I like the motion it gives me down the lane
this ball, I went with the pin in ring finger which is a bit stronger than I normally like.
I am glad we did this as this ball has a very continuous motion (a bit of a longer motion IMO) than im used to.
Its so good through the heads and just has predictable strong motion downlane
Its the perfect compliment to the GB2

Layout:
4 1/2 x 4 1/2  PIN over ring finger. No extra hole.

Review:
The anticipated released of this ball was well worth it. The GB2 GOLD, with this layout, polish, and Pearl cover, provides a stronger move off the breakpoint. It's not a hockey stick shape but more of a hard arc in my opinion. There's easy length and a strong reaction needed when the out of box GB2 is reading too soon. I see better carry during transition with this ball compared to the GB2 since it stores energy much better. I've really not used this ball on the fresh since there are other options, but I believe Ebonite has made a fantastic piece here. If you're looking for a reliable transition ball, this is it.

COMMENTS

The Gamebreaker 2 GOLD follows the versatile Gamebreaker 2 with a pearlized coverstock, that is definitely cleaner through the fronts with the same continuous smooth backend motion that you see in the GB2. The GB2 Gold is a perfect complement to the stronger GB2 and for me, this ball replaced 2 of my current Hammer balls (Absolut Flip & Spike Black/Blue). I really enjoy using this ball when the transition starts to take place on the various lane patterns that I have bowled on. This ball is one of the balls that will stay in my tournament bag – so versatile! This ball is perfect for the medium-medium lighter lane patterns.

Dislikes: Only dislikes are the heavier lane patterns, but would not use this ball on this pattern.

With the success of the Gamebreaker 2, the GB2 Gold is really a great rolling ball that is versatile and really plays well with all styles of bowlers. This is one of those balls that you have in the bag for various medium lane patterns and does not provide over/under like most other pearlized balls might have. Very consistent rolling ball – highly recommended!

The GameBreaker 2 Gold’s name says it all.  It still has the “patented” ball motion but with 3-4 less boards of overall hook than the GameBreaker 2.  The new Pearl coverstock has created a ball motion that will allow many of the die-hard GameBreaker players to sequence to the Gold when the solid GB2 starts up too early.  The overall hook compared to the GB2 is about 3-4 boards less.  If you like the Vortex core (Gamebreaker) and ball motion, this is a must in your bag.

The first balls I put holes in this season were the new offerings from Ebonite, the Warrior, Adrenaline Shot and Game Breaker 2 Gold.

So many bowlers would agree, the original Game Breaker was one of the most versatile balls ever made, and I lost count of how many I went through. More times than not, there were two in my bag – one shiny and one dull – with similar drillings, but completely different looks on the lane.

I found the Game Breaker 2 to be a terrific replacement for the original, when it was time to move on, but I also considered it an upgrade at the same time.

I have found success with my Game Breaker 2 both on house shots, where I can open up the lane, or on PBA regional patterns that require a safer, often straighter, strategy.

This year’s Game Breaker 2 Gold was designed to complement the GB2, and it does it well.

A basic description – When the lanes start to break down, it’s important to make quick moves and decisions. The most common change I see in reaction is the ball laboring down lane, leading to flat 7 pins or 3 pins or the dreaded 3-7 split.

Generally, I’ll want to go to something with a little more pop on the back end, so the Game Breaker 2 Gold is a logical move. It gets through the front part of the lane without using too much energy, and the pearl cover allows it to be more responsive to the down lane friction, where the GB2 simply was backing off.

For the technical folks – my Game Breaker 2 Gold is drilled 4 ½ x 4 ½ x 4 with an extra hole.

Both the GB2 and GB2 Gold turned out to be a little more angular for me down the lane, but not uncomfortably so, and there’s still a place for both in my arsenal, which often changes from event to event or even on league house to another. On some patterns and houses, they're exactly what I need.

I’ve tweaked the cover on the GB2 based on different lane conditions, but haven’t had to touch the Gold. I have thrown it primarily on house conditions so far, but I’m happy with the reaction out of the box.

There really couldn’t be a better illustration of the intention of the solid-pearl combo or a better two-ball pickup for the new season, whether you’re just looking for some simple, affordable options, or you’re a newer bowler looking to graduate up from a lower-mid performance piece like the Cyclone.

Likes:   I used the same layout on my first GB2 Gold as I did on my first GB2.. 70x5.5x30.  I compared it to two different GB2s.  My original one, roughly with 125 games a Factory Finish Polish, as well as against a newer GB2 (15-20 games) and box finish.  Compared to the shiny GB2, the Gold was a lot more around the corner.  No hesitation at the spot, where my worn out GB labored.   The Gold complemented my new GB very nicely.  A few feet further down the lane, and a little sharper breakpoint.  You can't ask for a neater 1-2 punch.

Dislikes: Players criticizing another manufacturer.  If you believe in your product, it'll shine.  Lets grow our sport, not belittle others because their ball has a different letter on it.

This ball gets through the fronts very well, but for me, can sometimes be squirty on heavier volumes.  However, once the lanes break down a bit, this ball really shines.  It has a strong backend finish and has great hitting power. Many shots that looked like they might hit weak carried surprisingly well.  The GB2 Gold clears the deck with excellent pin action and carry.  The GB2 solid and GB2 Gold make an excellent two ball arsenal that should allow league bowlers to cover most conditions they encounter.

Ball Review – Ebonite Game Breaker 2 Gold

**Note – I have not had the chance to work an EBI Demo Day with the Bowler I.D. Software so I do not know my bowler stats, all descriptions of my game will be based on general observations

I would describe myself as having average ball speed (roughly 15 MPH, sometimes a touch lower) with a slightly above average rev rate, I am very up the back of the ball but working on being able to get my hand around the ball easier and more effortlessly.  I do prefer to hook the ball and am very comfortable getting in deep, however I can play straight too if the lanes call for it.

The Game Breaker 2 Gold from Ebonite is a pearlized version of the Game Breaker 2, which in my opinion is THE benchmark ball that should be in everybody's bag, the ball that should be the first one on the ball return before you even put your shoes on.  This ball is the ideal compliment to its solid shelled companion and is a great match if you have slower ball speed or a higher rev rate which could prevent you from matching up well to equipment with a stronger solid reactive coverstock.

My Game Breaker 2 Gold is drilled exactly the same as the second Game Breaker 2 that I drilled, the pin is about two inches over bridge, CG in grip center with no weighthole and box finish.  This layout offers a great compliment to the typical benchmark motion that we're used to seeing out of the Game Breaker 2.  If the original Game Breaker 2 is too strong or I need a ball to push through the broken down oil in the heads, the Game Breaker 2 Gold matches up perfectly.  One thing I have observed from throwing this ball is that the lower RG rating of the core helps this ball to pick up in the midlane a little stronger than what would be expected with a pearlized coverstock, this gives me a reaction that I would expect more out of a hybrid coverstock than a pure pearl; that being said, if you're looking for this ball to handle drier lanes you should probably look at either the Black/Blue Spike from Hammer or the Deep Freeze from Columbia 300, both have cleaner covers and higher RG values than the Ebonite Game Breaker 2 Gold.

In conclusion, this is another ball in the Ebonite family that promises proven performance with incredible value and I couldn't agree more; cleaner through the fronts than the original Game Breaker 2 while retaining more energy for the backend, this should be a must have ball in everybody's bag.

Thank you!
Just because you can, doesn't mean you should
