Drilled my Polaris 50x4.5x30 with the intention of putting a big ball in my bag that would still see the corner on longer patterns - a reaction that has been sorely missed since I retired my Conspiracy Solid.
The first time I took the Polaris out was on 41' Beaten Path in our video ball review.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mQdcOwcW-0&t=149s With a little more oil across the lane, the Polaris cleared the fronts from all zones and bit hard down the lane for such a big ball. I liked my look staying straight and firm, but think that being closer to third arrow would have held up best to consistently find the pocket as the lanes transitioned. As I continued in towards 4th arrow, this ball kept making the corner and going through the pins correctly - something that I could not do with my lazier Zenith solid.
I have also used my Polaris on our house pattern which in my opinion is too cliffed for such an early rolling ball. The strong cover blended the oil out fine to get to the pocket, but my carry was suspect on shots right of target as the dull surface grit had the Polaris rolling up too early for my eye, although stepping left did solve the problem even if it was not the ideal way for me to play that pattern.
Compared to other balls in my bag, the Polaris can handle just as much oil as the Zenith Solid, yet corner harder. This doesn't necessarily mean that the Polaris is better because it hooks more, it just makes it a better match up on longer/heavier patterns by giving me an option of opening my angles, while I still prefer the Zenith on shorter/more cliffed shots. The shape made by the Polaris reminds me more of the Zenith Hybrid (mine has been sheened), just that it starts up a few feet sooner. There aren't too many balls that I have thrown that have given me this combination of traction and continuation. This ball gives me a shape that reminds me of the original Conspiracy or Nexus and those balls were very impressive.
I recommend the Polaris for bowlers with ball speed looking for help on longer/heavier patterns. This is a ball that will probably be too strong for most in league but a great option for tournament play.
