I just cut another one of these. It is drilled with a 5" pin to pap with the pin 2" above the midline. The cg is kicked out a pinch, but there is no weight hole.
I knew when drilling the ball that it was going to roll great, and it certainly does. I love stuff that rolls even, it just gives confidence that you know what the ball is going to do at all times. The one problem with the ball is sure to be inside angles and the pin carry that results out of playing such lines.
Out of box, the ball is too sanded for me on any of the typical shots that I see. If I happened to elevate the pin, it may have been better suited for that finish though. I quickly decided that it needed a bit of shine to work well. I hit the factory 1000 grit sand with Brunswick Rough Buff. I then hit another house and really saw what the ball could do.
Though I applied the finish lightly, the reaction was totally different, it was easily five feet further down lane at each stage of its reaction. It still maintained that smooth roll. After using it on a few different volumes of oil through the nite, it seemed to be most at home on medium to heavy oil from outside angles, or lighter volumes from a bit in. I found myself using this ball when the shot was fresh to great success, then I switched to the Smash Time Pearl when the lanes broke down a bit. But oddly enough I went back to this ball when they were quite broken down. It is not relly this balls strength to get inside and wheel the lane, but oddly enough I didn't need to do that.
Bowling after a 4 game league with another righty on the pair I started at 25 rolling the ball over 15 at the arrows. The ball worked great for a 279. The next game carry began to suffer as I moved in a bit so I shot 223. I decided to switch to my smash time pearl, and it worked ok but even though it seemed to be suited to the shot, I bumped around shooting mostly 2 teens with a few 180's in the mix. I went back to the overtime stood in fairly deep and tried to swing the ball. To my surprise it did not recover. I then moved out a few boards, winding up only 4 boards inside of where I started with the overtime in game # 1. The ball was still clean through the fronts and with a change in hand position, it was able to recover on the backend, and I proceeded to shoot 260 something.
The ball is so versitile, but one needs to keep in mind hand positions. The ball will not show you much different a read when you hit it up the back or come all the way around it, but you will see it when the ball hits the pins. I would personally advise that whenever you make a move in to reevaluate your hand position. The ball will get to the pocket with ease, it is just the carry that needs fine tuning.
The ball is great, one of the best releases there is, and the best ball in the time series in my opinion. Reaction is great. Just remember that carry is not a game of luck. There are many people that will say that they bowled well but didn't carry well, while at times this can be true, most of the time, one needs to take poor carry into their own hands and make a change.
