I am a tweener who likes to think I can rev it or play with a soft hand when necessary.

I got this ball with a short pin, so I decided to drill it based on Ebonite's Drilling #5 for symmetric cores.

In the out of box condition, it was reading a little too early, so I put just a touch of polish on it.  It made the ball read more consistently and a little tamer.  Because of the consistent read I get, this ball has earned the privilege of being the first ball out of my bag!

I think this ball has a lot to offer to all players, regardless of their skill level.  A Smash for Ebonite and the Time series!

Pin to PAP Distance: 5"
Preferred Spin Axis to PAP Distance: 5"
Balance Hole: None
Surface Preparation: Box Condition

What I Was Looking For in this Ball and Layout:

Truthfully, I didn't have much in mind when I put the holes in this ball. While I've talked about the dangers of doing this earlier on this website, I wasn't too afraid of it with the Smash Time. I was pretty confident in the type of reaction I would see from this ball.

What I Ended Up With in this Ball and Layout:

Through the front end, the Smash Time reacts like a typical particle-solid coverstock ball. It's not the easiest ball to get through the front of the lane, but it certainly clears the heads better than the dull chalk balls currently on the market. By using 1000 Grit Abralon, Ebonite has created a particle cover that most players can get through the front of the lane on most medium to heavier oil lane conditions. Note that the weightblock inside the Smash Time is the same as the Big Time Particle Solid without the flip block on top. If you own both balls you will see a significant difference in the front end. The Big Time Solid has that slightly higher rg due to the flip block, and it's noticeable in the ball's reaction. Where the Big Time Solid might skate a little too far on the heaviest lane oil in the heads and mid-lane, the Smash Time reads the lane pattern with no problem. This is crucial on fresher lane patterns that use heavier volumes in the front of the lane.

The Smash Time is incredibly consistent at the breakpoint, due to the ball's ability to read the lane pattern sooner than most balls. I get a very nice controllable arcing motion off of the end of the oil pattern from my Smash Time. If you get into a position where your Smash Time is not reading the end of the pattern every time, you are probably not throwing this ball on enough front end oil. The Smash Time is very strong and heavy rolling through the backend of the lane.

The overall hook of my Smash Time is very strong, comparing in boards to my Big One, and nearing my Infinite One in total hook. It's certainly stronger than my Big Time Solid in overall hook. Early pattern reading ability along with a controllable backend motion is what the Smash Time offers. This ball would be a fantastic solution for your mid-level league players looking for a combination of power and control.

Length from 1-10 (Early to Late)
3.0

Breakpoint Move from 1-10 (Smooth to Sharp)
6.5

Overall Hook from 1-10 (Low to High)
8.5

Got this one used 16lbs.....Had my proshop guy put it back in OBC. pin is over rf....kicked out slightly right....Cg is 4 1/2 inches in a straight line below  it....I heard that it has a simliar coverstock to the Big One...but a different core....Smashtime is made to go slightly longer than the Big One....I was very impressed with this ball at how well it reads mids and recovers from anywhere on the lanes. Also, im able to shoot ten pins as well with this ball. It handles the heaviest oil patterns of any ball ive ever owned to date. It totally ignores carrydown....wonderful carry....I have not had a series under 625 with this ball...Ive had it a month now. Tried it on fresh wood and fresh  synthetic....Very similar results. I was looking for a game 1 ball...I had been struggling out of the gates at the begining of league play...was looking for something to handle high volumes of oil...I found a winner here...I know a lot of people are interested more in the NV, Infinte One, Big One, SR300....and some of the other more popular brands from Ebonite, but dont overlook this baby....its a sleeper....flying real low under the radar....its very consistent and predictable. And will guarantee to hook in oil.

You wont be disappointed

For those who don't know, this is a remake of Ebonite's "Apex Obsession" without the low level particle load.

I loved that ball, and I love this one. Smooth, Predictable. Hooks. Hits like a truck. Never stops rolling.

Absolutely great ball.

Pin under ring finger, slightly kicked out right. CG about 1.5" down left, near center of drill pattern. Ball reads nicely and checks up just in time to be able to recover.

Ebonite's The One, Infinite One, Smash Time, and Apex Obsession.
Buzzsaw's Enriched Uranium.
Brunswick's Total Inferno and Radical Inferno.

Ive had my Smashtime Solid for over a year now....In OOB conditions it was too strong for me by the 3rd game....I love this ball, I wanted to use it for all 3 games. I put a Abralon 1500 grit shine on it. This ball has its league life extended to all 3 games with this cover adjustment. I dont know a lot about the Pearl version of this ball, But I would say that it is similar in length and stronger on the backend with this cover adjustment. Just an outstanding ball with great carry, a benchmark for me.
