Introducing THE ONE from Ebonite – the premier release in our new high performance series that pushes the entry angle to the extreme.  Designed for medium to heavy oil patterns, the breakthrough GB-10.7 coverstock absorbs oil like a sponge, giving you more direct contact with the lane surface. As you exit the oil pattern, the cut to the pocket is razor sharp. Once you take it to the hole you’ll realize for yourself, this is THE ONE.

Length Rating: 25 (scale of 1-50, early to late)

Color: Purple/Teal/Navy Blue

Reactions: Big Backend

Happy New Year to all!

Well I must say that I was STRONGLY against Ebonite but T.O. had caught my eye and I got it as a Christmas gift from my lady.....I am Impressed least to say. I chose the long/strong drilling (drilling #2) and it is the truth needless to say. This ball responds poorly to pulled shots and strapping up on it, as well as it clears the heads quite nicely and the hit is the equivalent of a concussion blow from Ray Lewis. This One is a winner and as much as I hate to say it Good Job Ebonite.....HooRah

I drilled this ball using the #2 layout.

I have been playing with the surface and have thrown it with the following:

Box finish (4000 polish)
Sand to 1000, then polish
Matte finish (1200 grit)
800 grit wet sand

I decided to leave it at 800 since the house I bowl in puts out a tight shot and the carry down can be pretty heavy, depending on how much play the pair receives through the course of the day. There is ALWAYS out of bounds right outside board 10. It is considered the toughest place in town to bowl but is also the most revered. There are a few touring PBA pros who call this place home.  If you bowl in Cincinnati, OH., I think you know the place.

I can tell you this about The One, it has a monster backend even when sanded but it is VERY VERY sensitive to changes in speed, revs, carrydown .. anything really.  This is the ball in my bag that I can string 6 in a row, then leave a mystery 2-10 without throwing a poor shot.

I would say that on a typical house shot with fresh backends, you could get left and bounce this off the dry near the gutter and have a field day.  On tighter, spottier shots, I found this ball to hit like a truck provided IT DOESN'T SQUIRT.  This ball is very squirty.

What a coincidence, my home house is also Western Bowl in Cincinnati.

High revs (450+) medium speed (17mph).  Drilled it up with the pattern that has Strong and Early hook (drill pattern #3 I think).  I left it in it's Box condition.  What I ended up with was a very controllable hook monster.

I usually don't throw aggressive balls.  However, after bowling in the Super Classic this past November, and getting knocked out because I couldn't play inside 5th arrow on a heavily oiled and carried down shot with my relatively non-aggressive equipment, I realized I needed to get something stronger than a Razor Wire.

It is definitely for Heavy Oil, but with the drilling I had it was a strong arc to the pocket that covers just about every board in the house.

I practice a lot on the leftovers from league at Western and was playing between 5th and 6th arrow.  I was able to swing it out past 10 far down the lane and the ball kept storming back to the pocket.  What amazed me was how controlled the reaction was.

I was practicing with my teammates on Tuesday night and there was quite a bit of oil out.  The deepest any of them were playing was about 18 at the arrows.  I usually play 2-3 boards deeper than them, but with this ball I was sliding about 48 and crossing about 28 at the arrows, just sending it somewhere out to the right and just kept striking.  I was just goofing around at first when I got the ball out, seeing how much it would hook, but after throwing 7-in-a-row and 12 out of 13 I was very impressed with the ball myself. I also practice at one of the easiest houses in the city and have to play between 6th and 7th arrow on their fresh house shot.

Most aggressive balls I've thrown have got me into a lot of trouble, but not this one so far.

Sorry, this was more of a story than review.  This is the first Ebonite ball I have ever liked.  I usually throw Storm, MoRich, or Lane#1.

Check profile for bowler diagnostics:

Pin 5 inches from PAP (under bridge), cg out, low hole, MB 75 degrees. Decided to go pin down because I saw and heard a lot of complaints with pin up ones being too squirty. My reasoning was that pin down would reduce the "wiggle".

Surface-
-OOB was terrible for me, way too long, ball never had a chance to turn over, wash-outs, blow out 7-10's, buckets, almost got rid of the ball
-1000 Abralon with extender polish, still too long, hit track with green pad, reaction was so-so at best, mid-lane was too early, flat 10 city
-2000 wetsand, PERFECT, perfect length, perfect midlane, perfect recovery, did I mention this is the perfect cover for the One?

Test Centers-
House #1- HPL'S, 39 ft pattern, large concentration in the middle from 10-10

House #2- Brunswick Pro-Anvilane, medium heavy blend, track opens up and carries down slighty.

House #3- HPL's (heads only), wood backends, 34 ft pattern buffed to 37. Track blows up quick forcing players deep early

House #4- Brunswick Anvilane, not sure of pattern, but heads play really slick with baby bottom clean backends (tournament shot, dont go to this place often)

House #5- HPL's, again not sure of pattern, as mechanic is a caveman lacking people skills. They use an old pad machine and this place flat out hooks, everywhere and from every angle.

After getting the Overtime, I figured I needed something to get deep and have recovery from the right. The One is it, granted it took time and many surface adjustments but this is my favorite ball.

Likes: (Current surface)
-Length. Very clean, you would have to be an absolute oaf to get this ball to read the front part of the lane early.
-Hit. Im aware that most balls hit well. But the One is one of a kind. Flush, light you name it. More likely than not the result will be 10 back. This ball punishes racks, the occasional 8 pin does bother me though.
-Recovery. Sometimes I think this ball has a gps system in it. Miss right and it finds a way back. Worst case scenario, flat 10 or shaker 7. Plows thru carrydown as if its not even there.

Dislikes: (OOB surface)
-Length, way too long, lots of friction and slow speed was a must to get any kind of reaction
-Hit, ball didnt hit worth a damn, it skidded thru the pins
-Recovery, what recovery? Too much if you lined up in the dry, not enough trying to loop it.
-Sensitivity, OOB surface lended itself to speed and release sensitivity,
-Lack of forgiveness on a tug (pulled shot with current 2000 wetsand surface) ball is going left no questions asked, guaranteed split.

Conclusion-
A ball for all styles, period. Work carefully with your driller and more importantly the surface to make this ball whatever you want it to be. After changing the surface I finally found what I was looking for and couldnt be happier. Great ball for opening up the pattern and wheeling it. I for one dont see the angularity that everyone speaks of, shape is more like push, sweeping arc. Ball tips over and just keeps going. Generates power from deep and when you have to square up. One drawback is that this isnt what I would call a bowler friendly ball, speed control and release consistencies are a must with this ball. If you have a tendency to spray it all over the lane and varying speeds and rev-rates look elsewhere. However if you have a general idea as to what you are doing on the lanes The One is the best ball on the market right now.

Santa was nice this year and decided to get me THE ONE for Christmas.  Drilled up #3 on the recommended drilling list.  I went to a tournament not having thrown this ball at all.  I left it in its OOB condition because i wanted the length.  No one else at the tournament had one and lets just say that after they saw me throw it they all wanted to run and get one right then and there.  They were amazed at the huge backend on this ball and how far it will come back.  It was a THS about 37 feet, medium oil, with fairly clean backends. I threw 10 games that day averaging 223 (out averaging the field by 7 pins) with a low game of 205.  That was some of the most consistant bowling that i have ever done and i have this ball to thank.  It basically ignores the heads and carry down.  As the day went on i just kept moving left and it opened up the the lane for me even more.  And the carry is absolutely incredible.  I can't count the number of trip 4's i had and this was at a bowling center where carrying is difficult.  Then 2 days later i was at league and shot 300 with it.  I think this ball is a winner.

Overall judgement
-unbelievably clean through the front of the lane with huge controlled backend
-hits like a tank...honestly the hardest hitting ball i have ever thrown
-comes back from absolutly everwhere provided it is clean off your hand
-the only complaint that i would have is if you see too much oil put it away......WAY too much length on heavy oil.  It seemed to not hook till it was at the pin deck.  Then again, i didnt buy it for heavy oil.  Medium oil is where this ball shines.
-absolutly my new favorite ball and i cant say enough about it.

A FOR SURE 10 OUT OF 10 from Ebonite

Just as most have said, this is a great ball, ONCE you tweak the coverstock. 4000 polished just makes it too damn squirty. I have this laid out with their #1 drilling and threw 6 games on med oil wood house after a 5 man league bowled earlier that night. Two things killed me, carrydown and burnt up shot. Still, OOB condition I was still able to swing from 20ish to 8-9-10 and the ball would come back HARD. I need to break out the 1200 or 1500 grit sandpaper and slightly re-do the coverstock. Other's that I've seen use this ball say once you've bowled a bit with it or tweak the coverstock it calms down and plays nice. You can get deep with this and I plan on doing that. This is my first Ebonite orb so I'll update this review once I've played with the coverstock and tried a few other league and sport\PBA shots.

1/29/2006 Update.

Refinished the ball with 1000 grit wet sand, no polish. NOT A GOOD IDEA. Considering the shot was already gone, the ball read the lane at the arrows and hooked 3 feet past them. Maybe in a super swamp oil spill you can go this low with your grit but not on anything considered medium or less.

Back to the spinner, 1500 grit wet sand and Ebonite polish until it shined like a mirror. First shot was the "Viper", old pattern A. On HPLs about 1 1/2 to 2 years old. Was able to play 20 and 25 to 10 and as long as I had head oil and didn't yank it left or fluff it right I was in the hole all night. Once the shot burned up I had problems getting it to stay right. It would read the lane too early and if I didn't throw a 20mph speed ball I kept going in the nose. At this point having The One in 4000 grit box finish or 2500\3000 with polish would have let me use the same ball and layout. (which is what I'm going to do) 2nd shot is THS, wood lanes in good shape, easy to score on. Normally play the oil line 18\15 to 10\8 but I had to move to 20 and was able to swing it to 10 about 50something feet down. If I hit the dry outsides too early I got a lot of hook but not always a bad result. The ball held pretty well when pulled also. Carry was as good as any of my Brunswick equipment. After league we bowled pots and I shot 299 the 2nd game. I've never shot 290+ with a ball less than a week after getting it so that says a lot about what I should be able to do with this once I get use to the reaction and how to play the lanes with it. As I said, I'm getting a second The One, something I've never done with any other ball I've owned. I'm leaving the 2nd The One in box finish or going to 3000 grit wet sand with polish for 2nd shift\burnt up league or touchy PBA\Sport shots. Overall I'm very very pleased with this Ebonite orb. I will be slowly adding more of their equipment to my bag very soon (Big One, Overtime, V2 Power).

November 13th, 2006 Update:

I ended up with two of these balls, BOTH COVERSTOCKS DIED. I no longer throw Ebonite at this point. I have always been a fan of the Brunswick family of coverstocks so I have been throwing my old Infernos, Impulse Zone and I added 4 MoRich balls which I'm very happy with. **NOTE** The Ebonite and Hammer equipment is improving all the time. I bowl regionals and know several bowlers on both staffs as well as Brunswick and MoRich. From what I've been told the "coverstock death" problem with some of the Ebonite and Hammer balls has been fixed or is going away. THAT'S GOOD!!. I don't have a problem with Ebonite\Hammer, as I love their equipment and when I had newer equipment and it was drilled right it worked and then some!  The One served a purpose and I bowled very well with that ball. (both of them) But with some equipment out there it won't match up with some bowlers games or styles. I was and still primarily am a down and in, straight up the outside or smaller belly player. When I started bowling with The One I was able to open up the lanes and play further left with great recovery and carry then I had ever been able to do before. This has added to my game and now with the proper equipment or layout or lane condition I can move very very deep and now slow hook a lane if needed. (ala the Shark Pattern). I will always be looking to see what Ebonite\Hammer has coming out and if there is a ball that fits a space in my "collection" I probably won't hesitate to get one and try it out. So, don't sleep on Ebonite\Hammer, and keep your eye on the newer MoRich equipment coming out too.

Bowl Well. E....

Lane Conditions Oil
Conditions  House ShotTournament
Type of Lane Synthetic
What part of the lane did you play?  Second Arrow
Weight of Bowling Ball 15 pounds
Surface of Bowling Ball  Factory/box finish polished
This is an awesome ball with a lot of power on the backend. I bowled with this ball in a tournament and played the same area with one board move for 12 games. The ball is very consistent in rolling it. I like that it doesn't leave a lot of 10 pins. I can basically play the whole lane with this ball. I shot a 300 with this ball. Most of my friends saw me throwing this ball and most of them brought two of them with different drillings. Excellent job by Ebonite in designing a ball that will fit almost all bowlers needs. You don't have to over work this ball or try to rev it up. Just roll the ball and watch the scores come.

My specs are in my profile.

The ball is a 15# on its 2nd drilling. Received it from RevLefty who said its only got 3-6 games on it. 10 after tonight. Well its drilled with the pin over the bridge, CG kicked out to the right about 4.5", and the MB is down and right even farther about 4.25" (the pin,cg,mb are all pretty much in a straight line), with an x-hole right on my pap. Earlier today I shot 701 with it on a medium shot with lots of carry down. I was throwing it 35 to the break point at the 6th board. Nasty hit on the pocket. Tonight on a heavy oil fresh THS pretty much the same reaction only I was 40-5 and still crossing over to the brooklyn side. The balls surface is 1000 grit matte finish, might up it to 1000 ruff buff.

This ball is everything I expected it to be and more. When I saw the extreme hook with Patrick Allen and Jason Couch, they were not exaggerating. Great ball for those who LOVE the big hook.

This is a 2nd review:

After having this ball for a couple of months I have to say that Im sort of dissappointed. In a attempt to clean the surface of the ball, I must have killed the ball reaction. I used 1000 to 4000 abralon pads w/Ebonite factory polish. It did nothing. Now this ball doesnt move at all. I am glad that I at least shot 300 with it.

Overall: No longer impressed.

Review part 2 (1 week after using it, afterthoughts)

My specs are in my profile, although not complete.

Well, after using this ball for a full week (not on a sport shot yet) the big hook tamed down but not a ton. Instead of 40-6 its more like 33-10/7. Carries great. Its a fairly versitile ball but once carry down gets to the extreme the ball will let you know with pin carry falling apart towards the start of the 3rd game. It will not "ignore carry down" as others say but does delay that effect. Shot decent with it on 3 nights, 2 other nights I wasnt throwing the ball correctly nor making spares. But overall, I give this ball a 9.5 out of 10.

Ive been told that I was the reason why people started buying and using the Vapor Zone on friday nights, started a Vapor Zone Craze after i shot 279 game with a 714 series. Samething might happen with The ONE after people saw me shoot 277 game and 698 series last week.

An update to my first review ....

I have renamed this ball The None.  That is because that is how much use I have for it.  I have tried various finishes all with the same result .. it either hooks too much or not enough.  I cannot ever seems to find a comfortable place with this ball.  I find the combination of length and backend reaction too hard to control.  If you buy this ball, please make sure you drill it properly and be prepared to tweak the surface out until you get what you want.  I gave up on it and got a Vapor Zone, whick is a much better choice in my opinion.

This review is not for The One but, for the Big One.  I purchased this ball last wednesday and I must say wow!  I have only shot to sets with this ball and I am very impressed with this ball.  The ball rolls great, carries great, and is great!  I shot 688 the first set and the Second set i shot 740 with a 300 the last game.  Great job by Ebonite on this one!

Fan of Ebonite so had to try this ball....got drilling one on the ball.....honestly the hardest turning balls i know. I have never seen a ball hook at the angle this ball does granted i leave some sloppy 8 and 9 pins but for how hard this ball hits you have to expect the outcome. really impressed with this piece, honestly nothing can stop ebonite or hammer on the way they keep coming out with this equipment.

Drilled using layout similar to recommended #3 from ebonite.  15 lbs, pin 2-3, top weight 2.8 lbs.  Right-Handed, ball speed about 16.3 average.  Bought ball Christmas week with jackpot $$ from that week just because others had it and were loving it.  I found out why.  After using only storm the past 3 seasons I have my first Ebonite since the Turbo X.  I also purchased the Pariadigm at the same time (see other review).

Immediately after drilling had ball finished at 1200.  Release point at about 20 sending ball out to 5-7 with a great reaction on wood lanes, 38 ft. league pattern.  741 series first time out with a 290.  First attemp on Synthetic lanes was a +104 for five games qualifier with heavier than league oil.  Carries better than any ball I have owned previously.  Average has increase steadily since using this ball.  To date this is the best ball I have ever used.

All I've been hearing and seeing is THE ONE. THE ONE is everywhere!!!  I guess since I've purchased THE ONE, I should put my two centabos in.
I drilled it according to the #1 layout on the spec sheet.  WHAT A SURPRISE... long and strong.  This ball is nuts, I tell ya. NUTS.  And I don't know about everyone else, but after five or six games on it, it started finishing harder and stronger.
The only problem I have with this ball is finding it on the ball return because EVERYONE HAS THIS BALL.  Other than that, thumbs up to this ball.
By the way, has anyone been able to maintain this ball without spoiling the reation?  I've had friends say that they cleaned it with some ebonite or hammer pad and it screwed everything up.
