Pin to PAP Distance: 4 1/2"
Preferred Spin Axis to PAP Distance: 3 3/4"
Degree Layout Conversion: 45 Degrees
Balance Hole: 25/32" Hole x 2" Deep on Positive Axis Point
Surface Preparation: Box Condition

What I Was Looking For in this Ball and Layout:

As I talked about in my Angular One review, sometimes we don't really know what to expect from a new release. In this case, I was even further complicated by my frustration with my SR300 bowling ball. When I drilled my SR300, I had no idea what to expect from this lower differential core. I made an error in layout and chose a pin to axis distance that was probably too weak. After learning my lesson with the SR300 (reviewed on this site), I wasn't going to make the same mistake with the new RXS300.

What I Ended Up With in this Ball and Layout:

Once again, getting finer grit shiny finish Ebonite bowling balls through the front part of the lane is almost never a problem. This allows me to use stronger pin to positive axis point distances. Even though the ball flares more (creating more friction), the coverstock pushes the ball down lane. In fact, the RXS300 clears the front part of the lane exceptionally well for me, even in this stronger layout. On our Guardian lane surface at my home center, the RXS300 pushed to the 36-38 foot mark at a minimum on every shot (a rarity in our center).

The breakpoint is where I get what I didn't get from the SR300. By using a stronger layout with a very strong preferred spin axis location, I was able to create a ball reaction that responds well to the friction. In fact, for my game, the RXS300 responds to the friction very nicely. Can a ball cover a lot of boards in the back portion of the lane but not be angular in motion? If so, than that's what the RXS300 does. It never really seems to respond exceptionally quickly, but it covers a massive amount of space in a very short amount of time. I would never call the shape I get from this ball angular, but the ball seems to recover from places that other balls with matching RGs and differentials don't even try.

Overall hook is not the strongest suit of the RXS300, but that's okay. It wasn't meant to be when it was designed by the folks in Hopkinsville. At my 3 ball test, the RXS300 performed similar in total hook to the weak layout Big One that I've also reviewed today. Because the ball covers so much ground in the back 20 feet, it's able to match the Big One in total boards. The fashion that the ball gets to the pocket is totally different from everything else in my bag. At this point, I'm prepared to recommend the RXS300 to all tournament/higher average players who are looking for a unique type of ball reaction. Due to my success and knowledge gained by drilling this core shape twice, I can't wait to get my hands on a second SR300.

Length from 1-10 (Early to Late)
7.0

Breakpoint Move from 1-10 (Smooth to Sharp)
6.0

Overall Hook from 1-10 (Low to High)
7.0

ALSO JUST GOT THIS BALL FROM EBONITE, AND IT CAME TO ME 15 LBS AND A 3 INCH PIN, I PUT THE PIN ABOVE BOTH FINGERS AND THE CG KICKED OUT TO THE RIGHT OF THE THUMB, I WANTED TO FIND A BALL CLOSE TO MY OLD WIDOW BECAUSE I LOVED THAT BALL AND I MUST SAY I FOUND IT BUT THIS BALL HAS A LOT MORE IN THE BACKEND BUT Doesn't JERK OFF THE SPOT, THIS BALL CLEANS THE LANES CLEANLY AND HAS A SMOOTH MOVE IN THE BACKEND OF THE LANE, I USED THIS BALL ON A FRESH HOUSE SHOT WHERE THEY R Oiled 38 FEET AND CLEAN Backend, I MUST SAY THIS IS A KEEPER AND A BALL FOR ANYONE WHO IS LOOKING FOR A SMOOTH BALL THAT WONT OVER REACT.

WOW...this was definitely a great addition to the Angular One. The RXS added the needed transition to the arsenal that the Angular one posses but must be made through adjustments.

Excellent movement off the dry and control of the wet dry house shot. Will give further review of off PBA patterns shortly.

pin above bridge cg/mb in line kicked out at 45 degrees no balance hole needed.. cranker 18 mph 450 rpm.. pap approx 6"x1"up right hand.. box condition.. got this ball drilled by john at bradford bowling in streamwood il... oob 792 224,268,300 first sanctioned 300.. ball is extremely versatile. played 20 over 14 out to 10 and just a smooth bananna type arc to the pocket. ball carries phenomenally as well as extremely easy to read. smooth through the heads and breakpoint is extremely consistent..would reccomend ball to anyone and a must for an arsenal.

The layout that I have for it is pin 1" above ring finger, CG slighty kicked out and MB right of thumbhole.

This ball can be played almost anywhere on the lanes. First time I used it I shot 300 on the first game on wood lanes, which was amazing even to me. The lanes were fresh and it was a THS so it worked out very well for me. Since it's a skid/snap ball I tried it playing inside from the 18 board and few the first few shots all the way to the 3 board. Gets through the heads great and with the pin drilled for length, it seemed just right for me. snappy but very predictable on the backend once it reaches the dry. Then made the breakpoint at the 8 board and still the same reaction. It's like a missile locked in on its target.

Next day I tried it on synthetic and on similar conditions but after a men's league was done. This time I tried it on the 15 board and 8-10 board at breakpoint. Still, nothing but consistent strikes and even when I overshot my breakpoint, it still came back to the pocket. I even played it from the 25 board to 10 board at breakpoint and a nice snap on the backend.

I don't know of anyone in my town has an RXS300 and half the people I know don't even realize this ball exist. It goes really nice between my Action Max and SR300 and I think it even rivals up to the One series and some of the other skid/snap pearl balls. Awesome ball from Ebonite.

Very clean through the front part of the lane with a very readable backend motion... awesome ball for the medium conditions or short patterns where predictability is key

A perfect 'niche' ball when looking for a sphere that covers gaps in the bag.
Personal- Pap: 2 7/8 over, 1 3/4 up.  65 Degrees of Tilt. Rev Rate-480
My RXS300 has a 'Tommy Jones' trick layout, for me, this is a 5x4 with a 90 degree MB.  MB is 1/4 above thumb.
The shape of this ball gives me a reaction unparalleled to any dull or shiny ball my bag.  The solid midlane reaction and controlled backend is a must for medium length sport patterns.

This ball can be used as a first out of bag ball for fresh conditions in league or with a shinier surface and weaker layout, can be used for 3rd game on a second shift.  A rock to consider as a competitive tournament player!

On a house  shot  movement off the dry  is smooth  and the back-end  is controlled.

Layout looks something like this:
--*
 O O
----*

 - O *

Pin 2 1/2"  MB is 1 inch right of thumb.

Bought ball to replace Heat. On wood backends that are very strong though they did have carrydown from leagues the ball performed similiar to the Heat but seemed to be longer and had stronger recovery.

My line started at 3rd arrow standing on 29. After some inconsistencies due to the carrydown moved over to 31 and using 16 at the 3rd arrow for my shot. The ball came alive and started stringing strikes. The ball, having strong recovery, was an easy read but wasn't violent in its move to the pocket. Love balls that do that and sure it was because of the ball layout. While it is not a Total NV or an Angular One it is great for those with less speed when speed is necessary to keep the ball off the nose without moving beyond the 4th arrow.

This is my first ebonite ball in years and must say that I am very satisfied with the Big "E" and will start looking at them when in the market again.

(I am lefthanded but the drawing of the layout is for a RH drill since most of people are wronghanded.)

Got this for myself from Christmas money. Drilled 4 inch pin to pap. Pin below ring finger. MB past my VAL. Hole down. Was very surprised from this ball. The cover is OOB. Even with such an agressive pin position the ball gets so much length. And MB position being where it is, I thought I'd get a pretty hook set reaction. Well I do but the hook is SO strong that it doesn't even seem like a hook set type of reaction. Have used it on so many different conditions. Can be used on light to medium-heavy oil. Just as long there is some oil, the ball can be used.

Out of the box, this ball is out of control. Very jumpy, but controllable. Very predictable ball. I am not a big fan of ebonite, but this ball and the Illusion are great balls.
