Crusing the internet, I see alot of bowlers crying for a Pearl Urethane shell with a big block for shorter and spotty conditions. While not pearlized urethane, the Primetime gives a look reminiscent of what Pearl Urethane used to react like on yesterdays conditions but in today's enviornment.
I set up my Primetime to combat the severe wet/dry that my Thursday night league house has in the track. While I used to typically score well on the fresh, by transitioning frames would be brutal as the lanes would appear to change in a flash and have me fishing in or out for 5-6 frames while everyone else seems to strike at will since they're hitting a 5-8 board area in the midlane.
I drilled this ball a bit unique. Pin under the ring finger, but 1 inch above the midline for a 4 5/8ths pin to PAP placement for me. The pin was out 3 1/2 inches so I was able to put the C.G. in the thumb quadrant. I added an x hole on a plane 6 3/4 through the midline and C.G.(just like you would with a Rico layout) just to see if I would get a rounder motion off of the breakpoint.
Boy does this ball deliver on the fresh. House shots(especially the really brutal wet-drys) can be blended extremely well with the Primetime. It is so smooth in it's motion through the lane that it's almost easy to predict what type of strike or pocket hit you'll have 30 feet down the lane. For a pearl, this ball gives a silky smooth read(almost like a polished V2) and finishes very strong through the deck. Wherever I go this is my first ball I'll throw just to give me an idea where the friction is at(ball seems to dislike early friction and will give a strong arc off of it) or where the oil is down the lane(the factory polish and cover does not want to continue in carrydown).
What I have now is a ball that really reads the pattern and lets me know what area I need to be in while they're fresh and when the lanes are transitioning and how I should attack them.
I feel really comfortable with the Primetime being my benchmark ball, especially in a longer format of play. The Primetime shines on fresh conditions and overreactive backends and gutters. With these going dirt cheap on the auction sites, this would be a very valuable ball to have for any type of style to make you make smarter decisions on lane play.
