Ebonite is bringing back one of their legendary balls, the Ebonite Matrix. Ebonite has taken their GB 12.7 Hybrid coverstock and wrapped it around the Matrix Reload core. This combination will provide length with ample backend continuation. These feature mimic those of the original Matrix

  In a continuation on the retro front, last year Mission Unk, Ebonite brings out the Matrix. A great rolling ball that lasted numerous years has made a return, and it rolls great too. Drilled one pin up, 60x4x30, and was impressed from the word go. I threw this out in Vegas at a few tournys during the summer, and modified the cover along the way, which impressed at the shape modification with/out the polish.

  Moving forward this is a great league play ball. It has just enough to bite on the fresh, and as lanes break down this ball should be in play for quite sometime without massive moves. The colors are good in the black with orange highlights and makes it easy to read through the pindeck. If you are a fan of any of the GB coverstock's this is an asymmetric shape with that proven cover.

Another throwback in the upper-mid performance line.  The matrix provides an all new core with a hybrid version of the mission unknown cover released last year.  The Matrix by comparison is much cleaner in the front part of the lane and with the very low intermediate differential provided by the core, this ball retains enough energy to be used even late in blocks when asymmetrics are normally out of play.   This ball has no problem making the corner from deep inside angles.

With the particular layout I chose, I was looking for a bridge between my HP balls that I would use early in blocks, and the flippier symmetric pieces I use when the pattern forces me left.  The matrix provides that bridge and is the definition of a benchmark for me.  There are some balls you just have confidence in and this is one of those balls for me.

House Shot Patterns Fresh and Broken Down

The Matrix to me revs up in the mid lane and gives that continuous backend like the original, if you never had the chance to try the original then you’re in luck.  For me the Matrix is extremely smooth out of box and with the surface I put on it, this ball will pick up as soon as it hits the friction.  I tried the Matrix on a fresh league house pattern and I had no problem getting the ball to the pocket but I couldn’t get it to finish through the pins like I wanted it to.  Moved a few boards right still hit the pocket but that finish was not there.  On to the third game I picked the Matrix back up at this time I am about 8 boards deeper then when I started the first game now I was able to get that finish I was looking for, same smooth shape had some high flush shots that finished as well as some light mixers.  The Matrix is versatile and can be put to the test as far as surface to the lowest grit up to the highest grit with/without polish.
