I got a chance to drill one of these last night and try it out on 2 seperate conditions.

Ball:
16 lb...3" pin and 3-1/4 oz top to start
Drilled the pin at 4-1/2" from my PAP, CG 2-1/2" away from my gripline...weight hole on my VAL/Centerline.

Condition # 1
This was a left over shot from a previous nights' challenge league.  There was a defined track around 3rd arrow that was problematic the previous night.  The V2 Dry was able to be played in the track area without over reacting.  If I moved out and played up I was able to play between 5 to 10 and the ball would make a smooth arc to the pocket.  Basically on this condition the ball acts like a really strong plastic ball but with some backend.  I wish that I still had a pearl urethane to compare against...but I would suspect it to still be a tad stronger.

Condition # 2
Moved down the lanes that had been oil with our house shot.  Here the ball gave me a different read on the lanes I was able to play around 10, but was able to pitch the ball out slightly.  With the bump on the edge the ball made a nice hard arch back to the whole.  On this condition I can totally see the urethane reaction that this ball is supposed to deliver.

This ball totally lives up to its billing and the R&D department at Ebonite should be congradulated for this ball.  Thus far the ball seems promising and might just be what I've been looking for on those late blocks at tournaments.

Ebonite has done it again. I have trouble on wet-dry conditions or where I am forced to play the gutter straight up. This Ball is my savior. Drilled it with a 3-4 pin, with the pin under the ring finger CG above the thumb. Ball does nothing but roll, got through the heads with no problem.  Did not get that big JUMP in the dry. Could move in a little and just stroke it and still get it to recover..Not a lot of swing with it. Great ball for beginners wanting more reaction than there plastic ball

Drilled 4 1/2" pin under the fingers stacked. I used this on a chopped up league pattern. The ball performs very well. I do have an old pearl turbo, and the V2 dry is stronger. I don't think most people realize how much stronger a weak resin ball is compared to urethane. I feel the V2 dry splits that difference in half.
This ball works great on SHORT patterns. It revs up good, and it is smooth at the break. I did have trouble on longer chopped up patterns. It would start up fine and then quit if it read any carry down at the break, but that is what low flare stingers are for. So stay on short patterns, or in the dry on a house wall and you won't be disappointed

Since I heard this ball was made for really dry lanes, I drilled it up with a fairly strong pattern (pin 3 3/8", cg 3", pin just under the ring finger and a small weight hole at 5" along the midline).

The people that say this ball goes straight, weren't lying.  I was able to find some hook when I hit the really dry boards at the 25-30 foot mark.  If it got any further than 30 feet down the lane before it hooked, it was a 2-10 combo 99% of the time.  There just isn't any recovery.

When I did hit the pocket, my carry percentage was quite good.

The Vortex 2 Dry by Ebonite is a solid although situation specific ball. This ball REALLY is for outside angles, burnt tracks, and persons with soft to medium ball speed.  I drilled one with the pin under the fingers at 5 inches from my PAP, and the Cg is at 3 with a balance hole on my VAL 3 inches below my PAP. I have this layout in a solid polished V2 and a V2 Strong. The starting pin placement was 3 inches out and the top weight was 3 ¼ ounces. My PAP is 5 1/8 by ¼ up and average ball speed is around 16 mph and rev rate is 300-325.
So far I have used this ball only in the box condition on several short sport league patterns on synthetics from outside angles, a torched wet dry on pro anvil lane synthetic from an inside burnt track, and on a medium long pattern on the same synthetic surface.
The Vortex 2 Dry did not go straight except when I pitched the ball off my hand around the second arrow on the regular medium league pattern or on a carried down sport pattern. This ball arcs from dry boards when given a chance with a look that is similar to shiny high performance urethane balls for those who remember urethane balls were the very best equipment available only 10 years ago.  The Vortex 2 Dry will not snap through the back end due to its ultra low differential core. Is comparable to a higher performance urethane ball but with more hitting power.
On the inside burnt track condition the V2 Dry was still strong enough to make it back with power from a 18-10 angle although most areas may not be as torched or wet/dry as my home area lanes, it is possible that bowlers with no-thumb/half thumb releases and soft speed can make inside wet/dry track shots more predictable with this ball. If you bowl and use medium to dry lane balls and have frequent trouble with the ball overtly diving from the shots that miss to the outside of your normal executed shot and the interior of the lane is not holding the line the V2 Dry is a possible solution.
I believe this could be a very useful ball in some bowlers hands and those who do roll it could make it look awesome when other bowlers maybe having trouble on the lanes. Therefore, I do recommend the Vortex 2 Dry as long as one remembers this ball is best suited for specific situations and will not work for everyone.

What can I say about this ball...it rolls as advertised.  I drilled my V2 Dry weak to begin with and weak I got.  My Stinger2pc Pearl covered more boards than the V2 Dry.  This is a good thing when competing on severely burned heads and backends.  I see more conditions like that than extreme oil so I plan to be using this ball alot.  Even though it didn't hook much it still had the hitting power of a reactive ball. It's much easier to control the pocket on dry backend conditions with this ball - no boomerang type motion here.  It could be used as a spare ball as well.  Don't take this as a knock against this ball - it will be used a great deal in the future.  Overall, a good choice for severe dry lane conditions.

I drilled mine pin axis so I hope that doesn't totally invalidate my review.  I wanted this ball to roll and go straight and that is what it does.  When I got soft enough and stood on it, I really could get a great reaction.  Was I going to open up this typical house shot like I can with my stronger equipment? Well no, but it gave me a very smooth breakpoint and seemed to have plenty of hitting power.  The condition I drilled this for, up the gutter when they are dry, I might not hit but once or twice a year, but when I do I will be glad I have this ball.

Caution!! Do not use this on oil or heavy carrydown. You will think you are throwing a 3 piece urethane ball!!

This ball works perfect for what it is designed for. Drier lanes, short patterns, outside angles. I drilled mine 5 x 5 and have NO track flare. PERFECT!

This ball came in handy on the new D pattern. I played up the 5 board with good success. When the oil moved down lane, I was able to switch to the Stinger Low Flare to get it up to the head pin. (needless to say, the volume of oil on this pattern was very light)

For leagues, I think this ball will work great playing the oil line for guys with some hand or medium to slower speed. High speed players will blow it threw the breakpoint.

AWESOME!!!!!!!!!! The ball hits like a truck and clears dry head with ease without losing hit in the backend. Placed a basic label drilling on the ball and went to one of the drier houses in my area at 10 at night. I watched the league before I practiced and everything was flying.  The shot is basicaly a dry reverse block with the out-of-bounds not as extreme as i have seen. I was able to play every where on the lane as long as my projection was forward and not bellied. The ball did not take well to being "swung out". I am thoroughly pleased with its reaction and I am thinking about getting another one and set it up to roll a little earlier but lay off on the backs more.

Looks like the reviews speak for themselves.  I, too, agree with the idea Ebonite came up with this ball.  A much needed hole in my arsenal was filled by the V2 Dry.  I drilled it kind of strong, by drilling the pin out in the ring finger and putting the CG right below it, thus creating the need for a small hole just to make it legal.  To be honest, it really will not matter much how you drill this ball because of the absence of the flip block and the flare potential.  Personally, I bowl about 5 tournaments a year that require absolutely no hand, maximum left-to-right and maximum speed and this ball fits this perfectly.

Strengths -- Will get through even the driest of dry with ease while retaining the hitting power of a regular V2.

Weaknesses -- Carrydown.

I drilled my V2 Dry with a 4 1/2" pin which placed it under my ring finger and the CG in the center of my grip. This ball is great on shorter patterns and when you need to play outside angles. This ball does not flare but it still has tremendous hitting power. No sharp turn at the break point, just a nice smooth roll. This will also work well on the typical house pattern wall. You just have to stay in the "dry" like the ball says. The ball does not react at all in oil. But then again it is not supposed to. I am very pleased that Ebonite came out with this ball.

THE ONLY THING THAT I DON'T LIKE ABOUT THIS BALL IS THAT I DIDN'T GET ONE SOONER. BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU READ FROM EBONITE ABOUT THIS BALL GOING LONG, IT GOES VERY LONG BUT IT DOES HAVE GOOD HITTING POWER WHEN IT GETS THERE. IT IS ALSO VERY PREDICTABLE AND FORGIVING WHEN YOU MISS YOUR MARK INSIDE IT TENDS TO SIT BUT IT WILL HAVE A HARD TIME MAKING IT BACK TO THE POCKET IF YOU MISS WIDE. LIKE MOST OF MY BALLS THIS ONE IS DRILLED NEGATIVE PIN BECAUSE THE HOUSE I BOWL AT MOST OF THE TIME IS SO DRY I STILL CARRY A Pearlized Urethane BALL WITH ME AND THIS IS WHAT I END UP THROWING ALOT OF LONG NIGHTS...BUT NOT ANYMORE! THIS BALL ANSWERED MY BOWLING PRAYERS. EVERY REVIEW I READ ON HERE SPOKE HIGHLY OF THIS BALL AND NOW THAT I OWN ONE I KNOW WHY. EBONITE HAS SCORED A TOTAL HIT HERE AND EVERY COMPANY SHOULD LOOK IN THIS DIRECTION A LITTLE MORE THAN THEY HAVE BEEN. AFTER ALL HOW MANY "POWER BALLS" DOES THE MARKET NEED? IF YOUR ANYTHING LIKE ME THE DRIER LANES ARE MUCH MORE Difficult TO DEAL WITH THAN ONES WITH OIL. LIFE IN THE Desert JUST GOT A LITTLE Easier THANKS TO EBONITE.

I got this ball right when it came out, thinking it would be a good dry lane ball like it says. Not the case at all. Hooks too much when it hits the dry boards, and not even close to enough hook when it hits any amount of oil. I dont know, maybe its just the layout, but not what I had expected.

I am very pleased with this ball.It goes long on dry lanes yet still hits good. This ball also seems to try to fight off hooking when you have one of those shots that hook alot if you miss in some. This ball has saved me at a couple of regionals. This is a must buy if you need a ball for dry lanes.Be careful where you put the pin because it doesn`t flare much at all.I track fairly high but even the one I drilled with the pin above my fingers still hits the thumbhole sometimes. It doesn`t lose any hitting power though.I highly recommend this ball but be patient and wait for the right shot for it,you won`t be dissappointed.
