Well, I read all your reviews before I posted this review.  I couldn't find anything that would help me --- as an occasional bowler who throws a straight ball.  Nonetheless, I chose the Ebonite V2 Dry because of the low hook potential (11 out of 30 on the scale Ebonite uses).  I wanted a new generation ball that I could still control and WOW this turned out to be a very good choice.

I bowl in a makeshift league with a bunch of firefighters (we have 13 teams)where we put on events once a month.  We call it the America's Choice Bowling League and have a lot of fun.  Since I don't bowl much, I decided to stay with a straight ball, as making the effort to develop a curve would likely take more time than I have to devote.  STILL, this ball has made a difference already.  Of course, I'm comparing it to plastic HOUSE BALLS, but it takes such a true line, I'm just amazed in my improvement on spares.  In fact, I had my first game of the year without an open frame --- pretty cool.  My average was about 175, but I'm now up over 180 and feel like I can push it a bit more...

If you hook the ball or bowl in a house with hooking lanes you must have this ball. This has been a great ball for my game. The first one I drilled was at a PBA Regional in St. Petersburg Florida with pattern E and I went out and averaged about 235 for the first eight games. I have since drilled another one. The first one is drilled just like the V2 Clean. The pin is 4 1/2 inches from axis below bridge on center line. As long as their is some dry to the right this is a great ball for medium to low oil. The second one I tried to drill more aggressive with the pin at 3 and 3/8 from axis. This lay out gives me a little more on the backend than first lay out. This is a MUST ball if you hook it and bowl on dry lanes.

This is a dry lane ball?  Not for me!  I got mine used from leebowl, and it was drilled stacked leverage for a lefty, leaving the pin above and to the LEFT of my middle finger and the cg 1/2 in in the NEGATIVE quadrant.  Just out of curiosity, I left it like that and just moved the thumb to accomodate my span. I am a righty.


  This ball is (much) more than I expected, but does however perform at a high rate of return.  The ball gets thru the heads EXTREMELY clean, reading the midlane with a strong but predictable roll, and a really hard arc/hook reaction at the breakpoint.

  The ball doesn't flare much ( it's not supposed to ) but it is stronger than I expected by quite a bit.

  If you bowl on "true" dry lanes, and expect this one to be a "plastic replacement", I think you will be shocked. However, if you are playing the dry side of medium (huh?) this ball could be a formidable weapon.  Definitely worth a look if you are a higher average or tournament player!!

It is not suppose to be a dry lane ball to begin with. It is suppose to clear the fronts easier than the rest of the V2 line excluding the V2 dry.Just because a ball can clear the fronts easy does not mean that it will hold of on the back.Sometimes it will store enough energy depending on the pattern to hook more than dull surfaces.

I love this ball.  As a no-thumb bowler with crazy revs, I've usually relegated myself to a plastic or urethane ball.  This is the first non-plastic ball I've used that I've been able to consistently keep between the gutters.  The hitting power is amazing.  On medium-to-oily lanes I can't miss the pocket and this ball alone is responsible for a 35-40 pin increase in my average.  On dry lanes I still have problems keeping it from hooking too much, so I have to revert to using my thumb.  Then, there is very little hook.

If you are a thumbless bowler or you otherwise generate very strong revs, I highly recommend this ball for medium-to-oily lanes.

First off, I am a stroker/tweener with medium speed and low revs who mainly plays down and in. I was looking for a ball that would allow me to stay in my comfort zone when my first ball out of the bag (a polished nemesis) started to overreact and the lanes were still too slick for plastic.

I purchased one of the new Brunswick Power Groove Dry/R's and took it to the pro shop guy to get drilled. He knows my game well and talked me into exchanging the Dry/R for a V2 Dry, the last one he had in the shop because its a discontinued ball. I was hesitant at first but he was right. IMHO, this ball is a down and in player's dream. It does not overreact when playing the drier outside part of the lane on a house shot, and when I pull it a little inside or have to move a few boards inside, it stays on-line and handles the oil ok as long as I stay soft with the speed. This ball basically walks into the pocket slowly and deliberately and hits with power. Soft hands and softer speed are your friends with this ball. If you hang up and/or don't release it clean, don't expect this ball to recover or carry.

I've only had the ball a week and it is my favorite ball. If you are looking for something that will allow you to play down and in when most other balls are overreacting and you have soft hands this is for you. Hurry, maybe your pro shop has one of these babies left in stock and you can get a deal on it before they are all gone...

Personal specs are in my profile....

Ball is layed out pin above the bridge, CG stacked below is.  Fingers drilled deeper to remove excess finger weight.  Ball is at 1200 grit high polish.

One of my favorite, and most necessary balls in my bag.  Great ball when they burn up, and other stuff is too aggressive.  Also a good fresh short oil ball, as long as there isn't carrydown.  I was using the ball as a spare ball most of the year, before I drilled a Spare Storm.  Worked well, just hooked away towards the end of longer tournaments.  The ball's reaction is earlier than I imagined.  This is due to the particle that is in the cover.  This V2 is all about control, and it does a great job.  Extremely arcy and predictable, with above average carry.  I send the most messengers with this ball, than any other ball in my bag.  

Overall, a great ball for its intended condition.  I'm very glad I got my hands on one before they got discontinued, as it fits perfect in my bag.  Predictable roll, with great carry.  My only complaint about the ball is how quick it tracks up.  I just rejuvenated it to get the oil out of it, and will resurface it starting with 220, back up to 1200 shiny.  If you are a tournament bowler and you can get yours hand on one, you won't be disappointed.

I just wanted to write a review on this ball because i was so impressed. I absolutly love this ball. It is amazing and hits great. Some how i got this ball to work on meduim oil and even once on a good amout of oil. im not to sure about the drilling but the Cg is under the ring finger. Its all about the REVS
