I think this is one of the best cover to weight block balls Ebonite has come out with in a while.  It reads the lane very well.  I didn't see much squirt in the heads.  Ball hit very well from all different angles, and with many different hand releases.  I was able to move in with ease and still not loose and hit.  Really proud of you Ebonite. Good job.

Drilled this ball with a simple label drilling with a 1/2 neg. side.  Very clean through front of lane with a very predictable flip in backend, nothing uncontrollable but excellent carry potential.  This is going to be a very high scoring ball when the lanes have a medium amount of oil and still some backend (pretty much an average house shot). Even better is the price...ebonite has yet another winner.

This is truly a great ball.  It reacts like the resin balls of old - snappy back-end.  You can drill it to be tame too of course, but mine is drilled in a label shift leverage position.  I like the surface right out of the box, but if more backend is needed then a little wet-sand with 1000 and some shine should do it.  Drill it to roll more and wet-sand with 400 and you have an arcing reaction - very versatile.  Great ball in the mid range price.  Another staple in my arsenal.

With this ball having a good cover stock and the old Nitro-R2 core (I loved that ball!!)...I finally cracked down and bought one of these balls.  

I drilled it up with a stacked 5" drilling and tapped a weight whole below my midplane to add some finger weight to the ball.  **Please check my profile for my style and typical house shot**  

I have been impressed with this ball's reaction too...I get a good hook and set with the ball and the pins don't stand a chance.  On a typical house "top hat" shot I play around 10 out to 4 with good results.  The ball does get a bit under/over from deep in the lane but with a fresh backend this in not a problem.
This ball, and the other vortex balls from what I have seen, are the sleeper balls from last year.  If you don't have the money to spend on the Matrix line...pick up a Vortex!  They work just as well.

Also hurry...from what my sales rep tells me Ebonite is going to discontinue this ball...GO FIG!?


I would rate this ball a solid 8.5 out of 10.  An extremely good ball for medium oil / slightly burnt heads with some carry down.  If there is heavy oil put this one away and punch up a V3!

The Vortex 1 is another winner from Ebonite.This was my workhorse piece in winning a Southern regional in Georgia last year. The Vortex 1 works very well for me on wet/dry or choppy medium long oiled synthetic lanes when i need a pearl that rolls strong. The layout used was my favorite 5x3 with a balance hole on the pap. This layout allowed the ball to roll long and strong through the oil and the pearl trimax coverstock aids in the length. When this ball exits the oil and hits the dry on the backend it is powerful with a bit of control. This ball will be a solution for people that have the Black Matrix Trimax 1, and are having difficulty with a bit too much skid.  The Vortex 1 has the basically the same coverstock as the Matrix Trimax 1 but seems to roll a bit stronger, earlier and more even. The Vortex 1 another winner from Ebonite.

After seeing much success with the Vortex I and II's (and local pro Jim Lewis' recommendation) I drilled up one with a 5 1/4 x 5 layout.

I can see why this ball has been so successful.  This is the first ball in a long time that got down the lane but didn't squirt.  It has very good midlane control with a strong but controllable finish.  It reads the lane much better than an Eraser, Ti Messenger Pearl, and Power Bolt.  These balls when tugged would skid too much but yet snap way too hard off the dry.  The VI gave me similar length but with much more control and recovery.  A very versatile ball.  I have used it on a variety of lane surfaces, conditions and angles from.  Carry and hit are outstanding also.  An excellent medium condition ball.

This ball is without a shadow of a doubt one of the best balls on the market.  With its crisp snap it takes down the pocket with ease.  And if the backend is to great on a particular shot, it carrys most Broklyn shots unlike the V2.  I would highly recomend this ball to anyone that plays down and in.  It works great on medium oil and ok on light.

Drilling: Label (a little different than label but who cares)

The Vortex 1 is an excellent ball.  No matter how you bowl this ball is right for you.  With this ball i know that i can miss my mark and still get strikes.  It carries everything.  I find myself leaving less and less splits.  It is ideal for medium to light oil patterns.  This ball has transformed my game and im sure it will transform yours too.  Have fun with this great ball!!!

TOO GOOD.

I think Ebonite can stop making them after the Vortex I and II.  For a pearlized shell, it gets through the heads and has a fantastic read when it hits the dry.  It naturally rolls early which helps eliminate the over-under.

I drilled it with a vertical label shift and ended up with a bit of finger and side weight.  It's a great ball on light to medium oil conditions.  It's predictable and consistent.  I can put this in my hands after the Vortex II is too much and move a couple boards right and play the same.

I'll keep a couple of these new in my basement.

Very tame not to jumpy but just enough for the sport shot, I set it up rev leverage at first I didnt like it on the house shot at salem bowl it wouldnt come back with enought punch to carry the ten pin. Our house shot is 39 feet buffed out to 48 flooded in the midlane and the oil stops at 8 board. If you kneed a ball for the sport shot I recomend you order the vortex1 pinout 3-4 in drill it revleverage with the pin 3/4 of an inch under the index finger.

Hey, TheDude loves this ball have had it for about, six months, when i first got it i really didn't have a place for it in my bag, my Eraser was taking care of business just fine, and then she died a little bit. I heard this ball was being discontinued so i pick one up in clearance. It was worth it. I Am a power play with a hugh amount of revs and lift. so all i have to do is toss is fast and strong, if it doesn't move enough i just give it a little more lift. She is great, excellent carry and never fails me, i have scored more Seven hundred on ths ball then all my others combind. I have shot 28 todate and am still getting better with this ball.Three words for this ball, Strong, Reliable, and Controlable. If you can find this gem, buy one now. People complained it wasn't inline with the Vortex 2, and the afterburner has filled the spot, but this ball will be a favorite for a while.

    Just got this ball drilled friday night.  Used it this morning on an extremely tracked out shot.  Standing 26, 20 at arrows, out to 6 and this ball will drive into the pocket and through the rack to put your competion in shock.  When this ball hits the pocket there is nothing but shrapnel left.  I have slapped out more 9 and 10 pins with this ball then anything else in my arsenal.  I like how smooth the ball rolls up into the pocket. If your a bowler who loves to watch the pins fly in every direction in the pit, then this is a ball for you.  I give it an 8.5/10.  This ball is very demanding on speed control, with this layout, if you left off the gas your gonna leave some nasty splits.

My vortex left the pins and it allways has a pin fling acrossed for the ten or nine  pin but if you baby the ball it will leave some asty splits but it carries so well i had the threw another ball fist and left a ten pin and mised it  then swiched to the vortex and had the next 7 then and missed the head pin twice and caried  a strike on them then i got one more then babied it and left a fast 8.

Ball has a 3" pin and 3.25 oz of top weight before drilling.  Ball is drilled with pin above middle finger and cg kicked to the right with a small weight hole.  

The ball is a lot stronger than i thought, starts at 35 and arcs really hard on the backend.  Not a good choice for carrydown, very inconsistent.  Works really well on fresh backends, carries very well.
