**Attention** Ebonite fans
« on: April 13, 2008, 09:38:59 AM »
Once again I'm building a new arsenal because I'm moving back up to 15lbs. I also don't really like my Brunswick stuff and want to go back with to Ebonite or Storm. To be honest, I'm leaning towards Storm stuff because of all the talk about Ebonite and ball death. Should I let all the bad press deter me from buying some new Ebonite stuff? How do Ebonite coverstocks compare with Storm coverstocks?

Clean your stuff and you shouldn't have any problems with "ball death". I had a Big Time Sanded which was great for me, but for some reason I stopped throwing Ebonite for a while. Then I got a Clash and shot my first sanctioned 300. I now also have a Gamebreaker. Both are amazing balls. Keep em' clean and maintain the surface with abralon pads every once in a while and you'll be set.

It's catch 22, Ebonite makes great stuff and up until this year I never personally experienced it. It was mainly do to the "One" and "NV" covers being soakers, but I took care of mine and never experienced ball death at all. The Angular One was an amazing ball.

My last couple purchases though did die on me. They were a Black Widow Pearl and a Ebonite Gamebreaker, but the Cherry Vibe I got with the BWP is still working awesome.

I wouldn't personally take the chance if I could do things over again. I would just stay safe and go with Storm for now until Ebonite gets over their current R&D idea with their covers.

I would buy Ebonite. I bowl in four leagues a week . I own ten Ebonite balls.
I average 210. I have never had a Ebonite ball die on me. I clean after every
set and abralon once a week. The One has about 100 games and the RS300 has about 50 games. The new Game Breaker has about 30 games.

Let me start by saying most of my arsenal is Storm.  That being said, regardless of what company you choose, the Gamebreaker is a must have for any serious bowler.  The original V2 was prone to cracking, but I always had at least one at all times because I could almost always hit the pocket when all else failed.  Clean your ball regularly, the Gamebreaker is worth the price of admission.

Not exactly big numbers, ya know?  When most people complain about ball death, they're talking 50 and 100 games.  Hardly anyone complains about only getting 250 or 300 or 500 games on a ball, which I haven't heard out of the Hopkinsville crowd in quite some time.  As Moto said, it's mostly the new GB and Traxion covers.  Awesome while they last, but if you want something to get you through 300+ games, go with Lanemasters, Visionary, Rotogrip, or something with Activator, PK18, or Superflex.

Thanks for the responses. What concerns me is that Ive read many posts and heard many stories about guys cleaning their stuff and still experience ball death. Oh well, I guess I just have to find out for myself if I decide to purchase an Ebonite ball.

I have had one ball die on me and it was my fault, i didnt clean it. I have had my Apex Adrenaline for atleast 6 years and it never has a problem. I clean mine before and after every use and 2 times a year a give them a nice bath.

Moral is clean them and they will be good to you.

i have a good mixture of Ebonite and Brunswick.  I have never had any ball death form either.  I had just realized last week that I had about 100 games on my Twisted Fury and I needed to deep clean it.  So It went intot he dish washer Tuesday nigth Wed afternoon hit it with rough Buff and back to new it was for Wed night.  i have a TNV and NVS that I use also and both have well over 100 games each with no problems.  In fact eh TNV at 2000 w/ Beans Secret Sauce is an excellent match for me.

i have the total nv and the n v s and the one balls from ebonite!!!all of them (except the n v s)have at least 200+ games on them and they still hit hard as the day i brought them new!!!!i dont use the n v s too much but not because it's dead.it's hardly used(i bought it off a guy who had less then ten games on it)but it's drilled differently then my tnv or the one.but dont believe the hype.....buy ebonite balls and keep them clean and you will NOT have any problems!!!now i know there are guys out there who say their balls are "DEAD"...but if they gave those same balls to me....i would bowl up a storm with them and not have any problems!!!

Simply put, if you dont want to deal with any possible issues with ebonite, dont deal with them. Storm and brunswick makes better quality balls in terms of their cover.

If it wasnt for ball death, Ebonite would be about my favorite brand of ball. They work great with me. Due to ball death, I will not buy them.

well i'm just the opposite of you guys....being tho i have NOT had an ebonite ball die on me...!!!i believe before someone not try a ball because someone says their ball "died"...they try the ball themselves!!!just because your balls died dont mean that the ball i get will die!!!i have the "one" total nv and nvs and none of my balls have showed signs of dying prematurely!!!so hockeynut15 if you want to try one of the greatest and newest balls from ebonite...go ahead!!!dont let someone esle bad experience hold you back.you probably will be pleasantly surprised!!!

I have a Hammer Black Widow Solid (Ebonite owned compnay) that has 180 games on it, I have given two hot water baths and clean it after each use and it continues to perform well and my Ebonite Gamebreaker has 70 games on it and just rolled a 269 with it last week, clean it after each use, I have been fortunate to never have a ball die on me, some like the Hammer BWS soak up a lot of oil but again with the hot water bath treatment I have been able to bring it back to life.

Pay a little more and get the Storm ball. Your investment will last longer, and Storm balls have a better ball motion for tough shots anyways for the average joe.
