Evolve
« on: April 01, 2010, 01:13:31 PM »
My bowling arsenal is getting pretty dated and a lot of my equipment is starting to show signs to put em out to pasture

I was thinking of grabbing one since they have them on sale @ Buddies. What are some thoughts?

I currently have:

Smashtime Pearl
Doom
Hawg
Ultra Zone
Roto Spare Tire

I really like my evolve.

I needed a solid as everything I owned was pearl or hybrid and drilled to flip or go long.
drilled it to roll early and arc very hard and thats exactly what I got

(pin under my ring and mass bias about an inch to the right of my thumb) ( 4 x 45 ? maybe, havent checked as I just got it)

its a really good ball over shadowed by balls like the virtual gravity. and the evolve isnt going to impress people by flipping hard on the back. just a shame when people miss out on something good just because it doesnt impress some.

The evolve seems to have suffered from the same problem that the striking motion had.  It was marketed as a heavy oil ball with a ton of backend motion.  The evolve is far from it, it rolls nice and smooth and is a great piece on medium to medium-heavy oil.  I throw it on my league shot all the time and I get a great look from it.

I drilled it 5 1/4 pin up 60 degree mass bias and I usually use it at 2000+shine.

Great ball if you like playing down and in and adjust very well to surface adjustment. It does have a strong backend but it's not a skid/flip reaction, making the Evolve quite controllable.

down and in is usually my style, i am for the most part an outside player about boards 4-5 and send it straight down the lane. i think from the responses, it sounds like it''ll match my style nicely, so I''ll probably get it and post pics of the drilling and keep you all posted. I''m thinking maybe a 12:00 leverage drilling???

Does anyone think that''ll be too strong or should I go w/ drilling number 5 from the Ebonite sheet?

I like my Evolve, and I find it to have a skid/flip reaction.  Mine is drilled 45* x 4-1/2" x 30*, weight hole at P3 location.  I have taken the surface to 800 grit and polish.  Ball gets excellent length, strong move on the backend and is continuous through the pin deck.  I would recommend if that look is what you need in your arsenal.

this is a really good ball...just not a big hooking one...very smooth and clears the heads nice...i use it when there is breakdown on sport pattern and have to get in deep with a smooth reaction

Right now we''re playing on the cheetah pattern in league. Sometimes they''ll swap the shot and we won''t know what it is....but my SMP goes too long, not sure why, my Doom is 5 yrs old. I''ve restored it once but its pretty much time to get the boot, I''ll use it until it cracks, but there''s nothing thats a smooth transition with enough backend to allow me to not have to play how i like. I have a very "graceful/smooth"(according to my coach and teammates) form so if I can find a ball that matches my style, i''d be in good shape. I''ve been out of bowling for a lil over a yr, and just trying to get back in the swing of things.

Evolve is assymmetric, you are showing drillings for symmetric cores.

The Evolve was never for oil, not with a 2.57 RG... Just goes too long..

We usually polish the Evolve and it is a great go to ball on lighter patterns.

Since the ball went on closeout, we have seen many bowlers who use a Mission { a real oil ball } drill up an Evolve...

Great combo...

From what I have seen... long ball, strong continuous recovery.  All that is left is the layout and the bowler/s.
