Anyone tried out the Cyclone??
« on: May 09, 2011, 08:06:44 AM »
I thought about maybe picking one up next month and wanted to know if anyone got a chance to throw it yet.

The Cyclone is long and strong, but with the box surface it needs friction to get started. With a lightly scuffed surface (1000 Abralon) it reacts very well. Still easy length but much more mid lane and controllable break point. Mine (purp/org) is drilled with a 5½" pin to pap so that's probably why I see a lot of length. Drilled more aggressively it could be very useful on a lot of conditions.

Hope this helps

drilled mine 4.5in above fingers and hit surface with fresh 4000 pad. (blk/gold/silv)
rolls very good. (long even arc with just enough angle)
my ball speed is too high for box surface.
im using it as a ball down from my Gamebreaker.

will get lots of use on our THS when they open up.

cheers.

Being a Low Tracker (3.5 over & 1 up), I have had problems with wet/dry lanes as of late, so I drilled a Cyclone pearl with a 3-4 Pin - Pin on my axis and the Cg on my grip line, as the other poster said about, the surface comes with Factory finish over 4000, so I knocked-off the shine and back up to 4000, on a THS summer shot, this ball is smooth & predictable and the GB cover slams pins off the deck, this ball so far is a pleasant surprise.

Props to Afflac for dumping Gilbert!

just for the heck of it i went down to 2000 on surface and it is super strong off the spot for a lower end ball. still a good chunk weaker than my GB, but real strong for its price point.

After a 2 year break I got one of these drilled up 60 x 5 x 30 on Wednesday.  Still not throwing it real well (axis: 4 1/4 over 1/2 up) but this thing was super long in OOB polish.  I hit it with a worn 2000 pad to knock the gloss off and it because super strong and smooth on the back.  Definately more cover strong than torque & move strong.  If you're a little on the rev dominant side it's definately worth it to pick up two of these to play off each other.

I still love my Playmaker as a ball down from my GB. How do those two pieces compare?

fairly close, but the PMaker revved up sooner and harder.
now you could hit the surface like I did at around 2000 grit and the ball really performs nicely.
depending on you, the lanes, drilling, ball speed, rev rate, etc. of course.
plus the Playmaker was a pearl and the Cyclones use the 10.7 solid cover (like the original 10.7 from Breaker and The One).

Drilled one of my mine today. Scuffed with 2000. This ball is anything BUT entry  level resin.
gets down the lane with great controllable response.
Colors are great, performance is great, price is SUPER.
Next up Game Changer!

Thanks for all the responses. I'm really leaning toward the Cyclone now because of the ball motion. Watched a few videos last night of people throwing it and I'm about sold.
