Apex Adrenaline serial number location?
« on: November 09, 2005, 07:06:57 AM »
I am re-surfacing a friend's Adrenaline with many, many games on it. It has theoretically never been re-surfaced. However, I cannot find the serial number anywhere on it. Not sure if it has been drilled through or what?

Can anyone tell me exactly where the serial number should be located on an Apex? This is the Adrenaline; I'm not sure the location is different on the different Apex models.

Thanks.

FYI If there is no easily visible serial number, technically, he would not be eligible for any USBC award. In fact, I think the game he bowled can be denied and all pins lost to the team, if it is discovered.

if you look at the ebonite logo, just rotate the ball ... it is in line with that.. if the ball still has the OTHER engraving on it, one of 2 thigns happened (1 - the ball was resurfaced but done horribly) (2- it was drilled out)

If there really is no serial number on it, you can always add one.  It doesn't have to be the original, and it doesn't have to be in line with what Ebonite uses for their serial numbers.  It can be anything you want.  So long as it's uniquely identifiable, that's enough.

Bingo! Thanks a ton, guys.

Every bit of white coloring has been removed and it was entirely in the black portion of the ball. Boy, did he ever beat this ball to death.

Now let's see what I can do to restore this sucker. Already thoroughly sanded it with 220 grit, treated it with Clean and Dull. Now for a CPR treatment. (No, Hook Again available here.)

still letting the 220 grit sanded Adrenaline soak in Columbia's CPR chemical.
Will sand it to 800, add high gloss polish, then use Ebonite's Matte finish to "sand" it to 1200 grit. Will then give it back to my friend on Tuesday night. Not sure if he'll use it or not. We're 2nd shift and sometimes there's not enough oil for the Adrenaline. We'll see how it goes.

As numbers go, FYI, my wife's Matrix was done by someone who didn't know what they were doing several years ago. I emailed Ebonite and they gave me a number that was in that ball's line, as stated above, it doesn't have to be the original number, just one that was in that "Line". I'd keep the email, as I did, just in case there's any problem, Ebonite gave you that number, so it has to be good for USBC.

Just passing info along.

Roger,

Didn't mean to mislead you: the number is there and visible. It was just very hard to locate. Not having looked for the serial number on many Ebo balls recently, I figured it would be near one of the logos. It wasn't. Like Brunswick's numbers, it's out in no man's land by its lonesome.

ambi1,

I just remembered your request. OK, here it is.
I resurfaced my friend's Adrenaline (and his Messenger Ti), because he has never touched them since he bought them brand new. I suspect he had upwards of 1000 games on each of them. I did the same procedure on both of them, with the final surface finishing process being specific to each ball.

For the Ebonite Adrenaline purposes, this is what I did:
- sanded it with 220 grit to get rid of most scrtaches (I will not remove all, as that removes too much coverstock and is not essential to ball reaction.)
- treated the dull surface with Track's Clean and Dull, according to dirrections.
- Leaving the ball at 220 grit, I used Columbia's CPR: a polymer, placing the ball in the supplied plastic bag, I coated it lightly with the polymer, just to cover the surface, about 1/2 of the bottle. I left in the bag for about 24 hours. (Instructions say 2 hours)
- Cleaned the ball thoroughly with Neo-Tac's Nitro.
- brought the sanded level up to 800 grit, in stages.
- Polished it with Storm's Xtra-Shine, the equivalent to Ebonite's Factory Finish polish which I didn't have in stock. (I asked Ebo about their Factory Finish polish and I decided these were equivalent.)
- Took the surface to 1200 grit using Ebonite's Matte Finish (great stuff), following the directions.

My friend, Rob, used it the next Tuesday in our league and I would say his carry power is back, BIG TIME! The ball hits like it was new. Pins were moving for him like they haven't, all year long, up to now. The ball grabs the lane slightly earlier, as it should. (FYI I got a large coke for doing each of his balls. No, I didn't tell him what it cost in terms of time or money.)

FYI, for whatever it's worth, the results were similar for the Messenger.

Since I never let my (bowling) balls get to the point where his were, treating and testing CPR using any of mine will not likely show good or bad results.
