As a pro shop...what do you stock?
« on: July 28, 2003, 06:12:05 PM »
Ebonite is not a big seller in my area but I feel negligent if I do not have some of their stuff on my shelf.

Other than the obvious choice (the V-2 Solid), what balls are you guys stocking? Or more appropriately to the bowlers, what would you buy???

Thanks Warrior ....the price tags on those balls are too steep for my clientele.

I am thinking the Stingers and maybe the new Savage. Opinions?

IMHO The black sanded stinger is still a heck of a ball.

Super versatile like the V2 sanded & yet cheaper still.

A great ball to begin a newer bowlers foray into reactive resins with.

Otherwise, the rest of Ebonite's stuff I could take it or leave it.

They make decent equipment for almost any condition. But for each of those conditions, there's a ball I would choose before the Ebonite.

The shop I work in is part of the Ebonite Striking Effects program so we currently have a good selection of Ebonite equipment, plus the owner is partial to Ebonite.  Myself I like Storm as my #1 company so we have some of there selections too.

I would say that we keep about 70+ balls on the wall at any given time.  There is a wide selection of plastic balls and mid to low end stuff.  We do have a few high end bowling balls, but we try to limit them to latest releases.  Wid the strength of the mid-price market it really doesn't make a whole lot of sence to have the high end equipment in the shop, except for some tournament bowlers or people who like to buy multiple bowling balls.

Well to let you guys know how small my shop is in terms of sales, I did about $20,000 last year if I recall...and $14,000 of that was Internet sales. Does that say anything???

I have a decent sized shop in terms of square footage but the layout is awful...one solid wall (concrete)that has the only power sources on it and the rest is windows. I am at the very end of the alley where only the kids bowl usually. I ended up blocking off the one wall of windows with pegboard so I can hang some stuff like rosin, wristers etc.

The owner is asking for rent now...the last 3 years were a trial, see how it goes basis. I just trying to find a way to boost sales to help cover the upcoming rent expenditure.

If I were to stock a few Ebonite's, I'd carry a mix of the Stinger, Savage, and Tornado lines, and maybe one of the Warrior's like the TPC Shooter.

We made a mistake ordering what we did.  We ordered ONE Warrior when it came out ages ago, and it's still on the wall.  Same with the Adrenaline, still there.  Same with the Stinger Low Flare.  Track and Storm don't sell here either.  And with a Brunswick and Lane 1 rep around, Columbia and Hammer are probably the most popular.  And who said they had 70 balls on the wall?  Geeeeez.  We've got less than 30, and that's about 25 too many.  The boss plans on getting a couple Savage Flips, and probably a couple V2 Strongs.

I said that we have about 70 on the wall...

I would say about 20+ are plastic in various ranges...always good to have an assortment of them on hand

With Ebonite's latest bash of releases we have almost one of every new one on the wall since they send us one as part of the striking effects program.

We are in an AMF center so we pretty much have their equipment up as a token guesture to keep the manager and his boss happy!  The only ball that we push out of their line is the Valor-P...great ball!

We've got a few new ones from Storm and a hand full of Hammer's on the wall too.

Then there are a few of the older balls that we still have.

It ALL adds up after a while.  But we don't have a huge amount of stock in our back room either.  It's just the way that my boss likes to keep things.

Why not just hang a clip board inside the shop or out by the counter and ask the patrons that are frequently coming in what they would like to see in your shop or what they are interested in buying.
