Hello all I am looking for help from the very knowlegable people on this forum. My father uses allot of Ebonite equipment:
V2 strong
Apex adrenaline
savage
savage pearl
predator
He is having trouble generating more of a sharper angle to the pocket. That is to say when he bumps these balls to the dry on a league shot, the only one that comes back with any consistency is the pearl savage. He used to be a straight down and in player but for some reason he wants to swing the ball more these days. He feels that it will improve his carry.
Now I'm not the most technical guy but most of his balls are drilled either pin at the 2:00 pos cg stacked under 2-3 inches or pin under fingers cg stacked under it as well. The pearl savage is drilled pin above the fingers.
My question is has 3 parts:
1. what type of ebonite equipment would give him a more angular finish to the hole?
2. what drills should he use?
3. Is it that because he has mainly a particle setup with strong drilling that the balls are loosing energy of some sort therefore loosing hitting power?

ball speed is around 15-16 mph med revs right handed.

if you look at your post, you've actually answered your own question. The drills your dad has on his stuff aren't flippy at all in nature. 2 pm pins with cgs below, and/or pin below the fingers will promote quicker roll, subsequently taking some flip characteristices away........the Savage pearl has the correct drill and the correct ball for more flippiness so-to-speak.
I'd pick up the pin location to at or above his fingers, 1230 or 1pm position....and stack the cg below or just toward the grip center just a bit to get more flip.
Pearlized balls and/or polished solids will give you the best possibilty for flip. Savage flip may also be a good choice, ...also I believe the predator pursuit has a nice flip block as well....
If he wants something to turn, pearl....Roto Grip Silver Streak Pearl would be a nice choice, ...and/or the Pure Fuel....

Angstfilled I also thought about maybe polishing the savage because I believe it is dull at the moment. Thanks for your posts guys I thought that his drillings and type of equipment was the problem but I wanted to just make sure. I got him a predator sparkle and a peal stinger as experimentation peices before we get any higher-end equipment. I'll be sure and relay all the great advice

Polishing out a ball will make it go longer before it moves - and it is generally cheaper than purchasing new equipment.
If purchasing new equipment, look for balls with a higher Radius of Gyration (Rg) (2.55+) and a polished coverstock. Reactive pearls will generally go further before breaking than particle pearls. Why? Because particles will grip the lane regardless of the ball surface temperature while non-particles must wait for the surface to heat up (as the ball rolls down the lane) before becoming "tacky/tackier" to increase friction. If your dad is throwing 16 pound balls, he may consider a 15 pound ball instead. It would allow him to impart a little more speed, thus a little more loft. Plus a lighter ball helps maintain the proper amount of ball deflection when entering the pocket at sharper angles ie. better carry.
