Big One Core Dissolves in Water? *FALSE ALARM*

I just opened up a brand new Big One and ran it under some warm water to clean the dust off. When I dried out the balance hole, I noticed the end of my napkin had a bunch of crud on it. On further inspection, it is clear that the bottom of the balance hole is in a portion of the core that is soft and dissolves in water!

You've got to be kidding me!

Is there a limit to the depth of holes drilled in the Big One that my driller may have missed? The hole is approximately 2 3/4" deep.

Its filler material not made to put under water, i doubt you hurt the core any at all. Unless the core separates from the filler material i doubt they will do anything about it.

More clarification please. Is the filler material between to different sections of the core, holding the inner section in place--or something like that? Or is the filler material filling a void in the center of the core?

In other words, it sounds like the bottom of the hole just happens to be at a point where two sections of the core join, and if it were a little deeper then it would hit a solid inner-most portion of the core. Is this correct? Or, is the inner-most portion of the core simply filled with mush (filler material)?

This substance is not coming from between the coverstock and core. It is much deeper--the last 1/4" at the bottom of the balance hole.

The crud you're referring to is the dust from the drill bit, drilling the ball.  The compound is just dust compressed within the hole.
No worries, the driller didn't suck out all the dust while drilling the ball

Yeah, that could be it. Me and my brother just picked up a ball from our driller today and it had a lot of crap in it, but it was just the dust cause he didn't vacuum it before he gave it.

Dust was my first thought too. But, I'm convinced that it is not dust. If I stick a napkin into the hole and spin it, the substance at the bottom continues to break off in small pieces. It is not acting like I would expect dust to.

I'm thinking I might have the hole partially plugged and drill back a wider, but more shallow hole. The other idea was to drop a little bit of silicone caulk into the bottom of the hole.

I'm not convinced that small pieces won't continue to come out as I bowl--when the ball hits the pins, for example.

!!!!UPON FURTHER REVIEW!!!!

The dust comments got me to re-thinking. I started digging with a piece of clothes hanger to see if I could get to the "real" bottom of the hole, on the idea that I had not gotten out all of the dust. The good news is that I made it to the real bottom of the hole, and it looks like the bottom of every other hole (in a bowling ball) I've ever seen. Apparently, the water caused the dust to partially solidify. Also, I wasn't expecting that much dust in the hole.

Relieved.

Thanks for your input. Let's see how this thing rolls now!
