Big One question

Asking on behalf of a friend, he bowls with the Big One but recently found that it has lost some of it's reaction and the ball has gone from a dull ball to a shiny one. Think ball is soaked with oil.
Question is; he would like to try the hot bath method to remove the oil form the ball. So is the following procedure correct ?
a) Fill container with hot tap water.
b) Put ball into container and mixed some dishwaher solution to water.
c) Soak ball for 20 mins then remove and rinse ball with clean hot tap water.
d) Clean ball with ball cleaner and leave ball to dry for 24 hrs.

After performing the above, will the Big One becomes dull again or will it still be shiny and have to bring it to the Pro shop to recon it ?

Thats close to what I do. I put the ball in first, followed by slowly filling with hot water and at the half way point I add the soap. But, I will usually sand with 400 grit to open the pores before soaking. After the soaking and cleaning I will then bring the  ball back to the desired finish.

Any other members here soaked their Big One and like to share the result ? Will the Big One after hot bath becomes dull again ?

Do yall tape the holes? If so what kind of tape? I have done this a few times, but when I have done it I used Duct Tape to cover the holes then had to use nail polisher remover to get the stickyness from the tape off.

The success that I have had with the hot method is like this:
1.the hottest water you can get from the tap plus simple green and dawn dish soap
2.place the ball in and cover the bucket to let heat remain in and let stand for an 1/2hour.
3. remove ball, place on spinner and use track's clean and dull, let dry and then take to desired surface with sand paper or abralon pads.
4. clean with mixture of 1/2 simple green, 1/4 acetone, 1/4 water and ball should be ready to go.

I would suggest your friend invest in a bottle of clean and dull, best thing on the market to keep dull balls clean.

Acetone is illegal for use at anytime on a bowling ball!!!

I have the same ball and HAD the same problem. I did the hot bath method. Hot tap water with Dawn dish soap. I soaked it for 10, then wiped, refilled sink for another 10 min with dawn then wiped. I would wipe the ball down to well it soaked. Then I did just a 10 min soak in hot water. The result were shocking and ball reaction was good, no OOB but pretty close. I am going to sand it to 1000 Abralon to help a little more. The house I bowl at must have bought stock in oil  cause they are dumping it on the lanes so far this year.

Hot water in the bucket is just fine and IMHO the best and most controllable thing you can do at home. Only use a mild detergent, and only a splash to crack the oil once it oozes out through the heat.
The ball should become "squeaky" again after 1 or 2 baths, and only if there are still track marks you should consider some re-surfacing or surface refreshment.

Stay away from acetone. It is illegal (Yes), and it changes the coverstock properties. In fact, it "cracks" the material components and losens the softener in the plastic material. If you use it often or intensively, the material could become brittle. Additioanlly, you ruin the polish on a ball with it. I'd only use it if you have paint marks or really tough oily spots on the ball. And make sure that you do it in fresh air, not inside.
