BIG ONE REVIEW

Ebonite Big One Review (02/12/06):

Ebonite is certainly on a roll with the release of THE ONE and now the BIG ONE. After a few years of not producing a reliable high end ball the folks at Ebonite R&D are now headed in the right direction. The BIG ONE picks up right where THE ONE let off, which is where THE ONE in box finish was not great on heavier oiled patterns the BIG ONE, conquers these patterns. What is also nice about the BIG ONE is that it can handle heavier oil with a very smooth 4000 abralon finish. This means that the life expectancy on this ball should be much better then previous Ebonite Hi-End hooking releases that tried to utilize 400 to 600 grit finishes and quit hooking after a few games. The BIG ONE is extremely clean thru the heads, but reads the mid-lane more then THE ONE, and still retains the strong booming backend of THE ONE. I found the BIG ONE to be 7-10 boards stronger then THE ONE. Keep both balls in box finish and you have a great 1-2 punch for medium to heavier oil patterns.

My Layout: Pin 4 ¼ from PAP, Mass Bias marking 4 3/8 from PAP, Pin is 3 ¼ inches above the mid-line of my grip. Balance hole 4 ¾ over from center of grip thru cg. 13/16 drill bit 2 ½ inches deep.

My PAP: 4 ¾ over 1/8 Up

Ball Specs: 15 lbs. 2 oz, Pin Distance 3-4, Top Weight 2 ½

Static Weights after drilling: 3/4 Thumb weight, ¼ side weight, 1/2 oz bottom weight

THIS IS AN ASYMMETRICAL BALL AND ASYMETRICAL DRILLING GUIDES SHOULD BE USED. CG IS ONLY USED TO DETERMINE WEIGHT HOLE PLACEMENT IF NEEDED AND OR WANTED!

LAYOUT #1 on the Ebonite Drill sheet should only be used if a bowler DOES NOT know their PAP.

I have drilled up at least 50 or more NIB balls over the past 2 years and the big one is the biggest hooking ball I have ever thrown.. It makes a left turn and I mean hard left turn to the pocket about 3/4 of the way down the lane and YES the carry is just as good or better than my regular the one..  I used it last night and plyed outside until the lanes got drier and then moved inside.. I shot 247 257 first 2 games and should have put the big one away but didn't and shot 178 the last game because it was just to strong and I left 3 splits..

Mine is drilled pin above and slightly to the right of the ring, cg in the palm area amd mass bias in the strong position (right and below the thumb)

For me the big one is about 7-8 boards stronger than the one..

This is going to be another great ball from Ebonite. I personally am not changing  the coverstock on the big deal.. Its fine how it is..

I have seen 3 different style bowlers use this the big one everyone was very happy with the reaction they where getting.. I saw a guy that rips the cover off the ball use it Sunday in my traveling league and he throws the ball very hard with a ton of revs and it was not rolling out on him..

Thanks for the review Chris and to everyone else.

I personally saw a couple of "Big One(s)," in action at the True Amateur Tournaments Megabuck event this past weekend in Las Vegas, NV.

We saw a long pattern of oil and considerable hang outside of the first arrow. One Tweener had success using his (didn't see his lay out) around the 3rd and 4th arrow and this ball didn't quit on the backend.

I am also very curious about this ball, I'll let you know if I end up getting one punched out.

Regards, Ram

I got one today and drilled it to the #3 layout on the sheet! Its was a bit too much for the lanes I was on! It has a big mid lane move then it rolled out on the back. I bought this ball and drilled it for a certain condition (med/heavy in the heads and big carrydown, the lanes I was on today had a light/med amount of head oil) so, after I test it on that condition, I will report back! Also, the first 5 frames I threw it it didnt do much of anything but, started to come alive after that, is that the nature of this cover? Does it need to soak in some oil to act correctly?

I never had any waiting period for my Big One to hook.. I can tell you that.. Maybe you just didn't throw it well the first few shots..

I know the last 2 nights in league I have shot 247 257 246 223 and should have put it away the 3rd game both nights because this ball needs some oil to be effective and both nights the oil was gone by the 3rd game. I should have pulled out the one for the 3rd game each night.. I know I will in the future do that..
