Lane Surface: Synthetic (not sure if they're HPL, but I'll ask my buddy)
Oil Pattern: Typical Christmas Tree Pattern (Medium Oily with more oil in the middle naturally and lighter volume load towards the gutter)

Just got the ball, so getting used to the motions and characteristics of it. So far, from what I hear here in the forums, the ball clears the heads real easily. Even with the Pin under drilling-clears the heads nicer than I thought it would, I'm guessing the factory polish takes credit for that happening. First game I was experimenting and was all over the place! On the Xmas tree pattern, if start your ball outside (track area to gutter) and forget the speed, your ball will go through the nose or brooklyn. This is exactly what I got. The ball reacts strong off the dry. Ended the first game with a 153 after getting a feel for the ball leaving a few designs hehe. This is Ebonite strongest Mass Biass design to date. MB is in strong position on this ball, so it really moves on the back when coming in contact with dry boards.

Ok, after moving in and starting the ball around the 14-15 board to about 5 at breakpoint in the last frame of the first game I began to build some confidence by moving into the oil line.

2nd game, in order for the ball to push, I started moving left and chasing the oil line. Playing 15 to about 5 at the breakpoint downlane. This proved to be a better move. After getting used to the ball and trying different hand positions in the first game, I got comfortable and played my "A" game and trusted the new ball. Feeding the ball into the oil and sending it to the spot downlane seemed to do the trick. The One revs up really fast and is killer when it sniffs dry. Tonight, I had to keep my speed up or else this ball would fly in the back. With the MB in the Strong Position, I had to keep my speed firm or I'll go through the nose again like I did constantly in the 1st game. I stayed clean and finished with a 217 game.

3rd Game. By the last game, I am already starting the ball over the 4th arrow and I have some free hook to the right (Granted I get it near/around "the spot") and some hold in the oil if I happened to tug it. This ball from what I see is "Long and Strong." (Even with the Pin under - Polished cover seems to give this ball more Length) It is very angular at the breakpoint, but by the last game, I was in the Oil line and got great hold. The reaction was not as angular as it was in the 1st and 2nd game as I kind of stayed in the dirt or got it into the dirt early. Tried to stay clean, but had a few careless opens. Finished with 215.

Not the best set in the world, but not bad for a 1st night's experiment in league. I accomplished what I set out to do and that was to feel the ball out and its' properties.

Overall Thoughts...
- Ball in OOB Condition Clears the Heads with ease
- Mass Bias in strong position dictates a true strong/angular breakpoint
- Seems to rev up a lot more than my other stuff
- Did I mention this ball clears the heads easily?
- Great pin action (lots of mixers and continuous through the pocket - btw I left 3 solid 10's that night)
- Could be speed sensitive in Heavier Oils (I will update you when I see this type of shot - Surface change would probably do the trick)

Ok, so I only have 3 games on this thing. I am VERY anxious to try a cover change on this ball. I'm thinking maybe hit it with a scotchbrite pad equivalent to 1000. I do have a Track Delta that is drilled almost identical, except the pin is under the bridge and it is very strong. I would say the Delta is a little earlier in the back in compared to The One, so I'll keep this ball the way it is for now. So I may keep The One in its' OOB condition. So far so good. I am tempted to hit this with a scotchbrite pad, but it just looks really cool polished hehe.

If you have any questions, feel free to hit me up!
Will be sure to keep you updated.
Hope this helps and thanks for reading =)

I totally agree mine is pin an inch away from my ring finger and mass bias in the strong, I had to put a little surface on mine in order for it to react due to my higher ball speed (17mph not really trying).  This ball clears the head easily and makes a nice angular move to the pocket with a continuous strong finish for me.  I will say this...the ball is real partial to surface adjustments. I took mine from 4000 to around 2000 with a green pad twice over.  Ball works wonders I'll say that

Hey purduepaul,

Hey thanks for the input. Glad you're having success with yours. If I feel like I need the ball to smoothen out in the back, I'll try and hit it with some surface (a little at a time). What conditions do you like to throw yours on Paul?

Anyone else have this ball? If so, please chime in if you would like...
Hope to get some videos up for you guys soon...stay tuned!

The ball wont smoothen in the back with more surface it will have a sharper break point.  I throw mine on house conditions due to the fact I have so much speed on the ball and not that much hand (I have some but not a cranker by any means).  I dont know our house shot is a longer pattern with less volume of oil, however tonight will be the test, a christmas tree house shot that is very easy to score on as long as you play outside (those who play through the middle get punished with ten pins).

Hey Paul, wow, I'm surprised. Usually when I scuff a polished ball it tames the backend reaction down. (i.e. makes an angular ball back off a little and makes it smoother). Let me know if you experienced the opposite with yours...

Thanks!

Hey Ram,

I have this ball.  It was given to me by a bowling partner.  I am yet to have it drilled, but have been impressed with what I've seen since before it 'officially' hit the streets.  3.5" pin.  Until I work out the kinks in my game, it'll sit along with others, undrilled on my rack @ home.   Every one that I've witnessed was thrown in OOB condition.  So I can't really elaborate on cover changes until I try it or read about others doing so

Vern, thanks for the info man. Good luck with getting your game together!
I will use this ball in its' OOB polished condition as much as I can and give you guys updates. If I do decide to scuff up the cover for a different look, I'll let you guys know as well!

Ram, good review of the One.  I am really confused by some of the bashers.  I am not a one company person as I drill up anything by anybody that I want.  Have not used Ebonite since the old V2 black/blue but Ebonite replaced an old TPC Warrior that had cracked and gave me a ONE.  All I can say is I totally agree with your post.  This is the best ball I have thrown for years and I bowl on both wood and synthetic.  I have left it at 4000 and found its true strength on down and in patterns although if you tug it in the oil it may not cover a lot of boards but will still hit like a truck. iF I miss wide it comes roaring back but might ring a 10. When moving deeper it will become sensitive to speed changes and release changes but so do most balls.  My driller punches about 1500 balls a year, is a silver level coach (Voted top 100 again this year) and made the cut again this year at the Masters in Milwaukee so he test a lot of balls for all the companys and he has one in his arsenal.  This ball is not all things to all people but in the right hand and condition is a great ball via Jason Couch.  I drilled up one for my lefty wife and also my grandaughter who is one of the top high school bowlers in our state and it fits in with her Ultimate Inferno and Big Bully.  Tuesday when the Bully started pinging 10's out came the one and she started taking them down the rows for 238 with a stone 8 thrown in.  Again like many balls it can be great when put in the right persons hand on the right condition but isn't that BOWLING! Don't understand Pauls statement about scuffing as that IS the best way to even out ball reaction on the backend.

Dale, thanks for the kudos and thanks for chimin' in. There's a lot of hype about this ball and I had to see what it was all about so I decided to get one punched up.

Tonight I might do some practicing at another Synthetic surface house. Will keep you guys updated.

Pics of the ball and layout have now been added to the original post. If anyone has any questions, let me know!

Hey Vern! (In Ernest P. Worrell's voice) I had another guy in the area drill it up for me. Goodman Ng in San Francisco. Another good friend of Rick Leong as well. Vids of this ball and the Delta will be up hopefully by today!
